Asking Good Questions to Influence

One of the best ways to influence others as a leader is to ask good questions. Why ask questions? When should you ask questions? What questions should you ask? The answers will help you become a better learner, teacher, influencer and leader.

Influencing Safety

Safety in the workplace is a critical concern and important value. But it isn't something you can just direct through policy and procedure. The real safety culture comes through your influence, both positive and negative. By understanding how you influence the culture in your actions and inactions, you can reach the safety culture you desire.

Human Error - The cause or the starting point?

Human error is one of the leading causes of accidents and unintended consequences. Too often investigations stop at "human error" when the real cause, and the key to prevention, lies deeper in institutional issues that need to be identified and fixed. The problem is we think our systems are "safe" and it's human failure that causes problems. The reality is that the systems are the problem, and we need to see the event through the eyes of the people involved to get to the real issues. "Human error" is just the starting point.

Getting to real employee engagement

The average company has 3 in 10 employees who are really engaged, five more who are not engaged, and 2 in 10 who are actively disengaged. Those actively disengaged are actually undermining others in the company. It takes a four actively engaged employees to offset the negative impact of those actively disengaged, and the best companies are at over 9 to 1. To get there, you need to 1) Care for your people, 2) Create meaning for your people, and 3) Facilitate progress for your people. I'll tell you why and help you get there.
