Mindy Anne Henderson began life as a happy and healthy baby. At the age of 15 months, however, that all changed. She was diagnosed with a neuromuscular illness called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Her parents were told she would never walk and that she would not live to be three. Mindy beat the odds, and despite spending life in a wheelchair, she now has on her list of credits:
1. A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree
2. A one-on-one battle fought and won with the
government of the People’s Republic of China & a trip to
one of the least wheelchair accessible countries on the planet to adopt her daughter
4. A successful career in software, leading teams of highly skilled professionals
5. Multiple singing appearances on national television
6. A CD recorded with George Strait’s guitar and bass players
7. A long list of public speaking credits, addressing thousands of volunteers of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), MDA staff and corporate executives for companies such as 7-11, Acosta, 7-Up and ERA
8. A passion for making the impossible, possible.
Through her early experiences as the Texas and, subsequently, Florida State Poster Child for the MDA, Mindy learned that she could make a special contribution to something meaningful. She believes that everything happens for a reason and that (at a minimum), if we can accept life’s challenges with grace, courage, openness and faith, we can find peace.
With great passion, Mindy writes and speaks to audiences in hopes of inspiring, teaching and entertaining. Her greatest wish is to bring hope to others and to show others through her story, how rich their own lives truly are.
