Bio

Melissa "Skeet Fighter" Skeet - a name she earned during her roller derby career and now carries into her trail skating advocacy. She is Diné, a survivor, ultra roller skater, advocate and professional speaker. In 2024, she roller skated across the United States from Washington state to Washington D.C. to raise awareness for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP). In 2021, she skated 192 miles across the Navajo Nation for the same mission.

Melissa brings more than 15 years of professional experience in victim advocacy, having trained law enforcement, attorneys, forensic nurses, and community responders on trauma, cultural competency, and working holistically with survivors of violence. She also provides training on MMIP, offering communities and professionals practical tools to respond more effectively and compassionately to cases of Missing & Murdered Indigenous People.

Her story and work have been featured in Elle Magazine, Göteborgs-Posten (one of Sweden's largest daily newspapers), and the Navajo Times, and in a documentary by Brut. She has spoken on a TEDx panel and has been a guest on numerous podcasts, including Powerful Ladies, 1 Girl Revolution, and Indigenous Health MedTalk based out of Australia.

Through her talks and trainings, Melissa weaves together her healing journey, skating adventures, and advocacy for justice, health, and wellness. As a survivor of domestic violence herself, she speaks with authenticity, balancing lived experience with professional expertise. She challenges communities to break silence, confront systemic failures, and take action for those who go missing or are left without answers.
