Canary in the Coal Mine – Is Resilience the Wrong Approach?

Workforce sustainability and organizational effectiveness require HR to think differently in a hyper-competitive employment paradigm, especially regarding workplace stress and mental health. Your people are the barometer for the health of your organization; They are the canaries; Your workplace is the metaphorical coal mine. Are you listening to what your employees are saying (or not saying, but are showing) about workplace stress, or are you solely relying on their personal resilience to carry them through?

Traditional approaches using personal resilience as a go to solution to address workplace stress and mental health are no longer sufficient and many organizations fail to address, or even understand, the root causes in the workplace. In this session we will explore why personal resilience is not - and should not be - the only answer to workplace stress and mental health.

Embracing the Employee-centric HR Paradigm

The challenges of the new HR paradigm: quiet quitting, global talent crisis and burnout (among others) are increasing pressure to focus on mental health and the employee experience. An employee-centric approach, paying attention to the health, well-being, and engagement of employees is required to succeed in the new paradigm. Leadership needs to demonstrate commitment to adapting and improving the work environment to attract and retain talent, fully achieve strategic success, and drive profits.

Learning objectives
 Discuss the business & strategic imperatives of prioritizing the employee experience and promoting workplace mental health/Psychological Health &Safety (PH&S) to attract and retain talent
 Explore approaches to obtain leadership buy-in
 Dive into a discussion of PH&S factors relevant to your organization in an interactive and participatory session (grounded in the principles of ISO 45003: 2021 and/or the CSA Z1003 the psychological health & safety standards)

P.S. You need this for your business to thrive – Psychological Safety (P.S.) in the Workplace

The OHSA requires psychological hazards to be included in the hazard assessment process, but organizations may be at different points on the continuum of incorporating these hazards into their health & safety risk assessments. In a post-Covid world mental health is going to need to be a top priority for individuals and organizations as we continue to navigate to a new normal and recover from the ongoing challenges presented by the global pandemic. Will this be the catalyst for more organizations taking a closer look at and adopting the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace? Is there a business case for psychological safety in the workplace or has it become a business imperative?

Minds Matter: Creating a mental health supportive workplace

Perhaps one silver lining of the global pandemic has been that the importance of supporting mental health has become increasingly evident as both a social and business imperative, more than ever before. Workplaces that make the mental health of their workers a priority strive to optimize organizational and individual performance in a healthy working environment and can differentiate their organization to be an employer of choice with an ability to attract and retain the best talent. But what can organizations do to incorporate or even advance mental health as a pillar of their success?

Step 1: Harassment Complaint Received; Step 2: Panic?! Workplace Harassment Investigations 101

Good news/bad news, you’ve received a workplace harassment complaint. Is there good news? Yes! It’s affirmation your policies and processes are working, and you can view this as an opportunity to learn and to support your workers. But now what? There is no need to panic; Navigating workplace harassment is a challenge many organizations face. Who should investigate? Are there defined steps that should be followed? Join us as we discuss an investigation process methodology to make this a less daunting task.

How to save $$$ on Workplace Harassment Investigations

With workplace harassment on the rise, and resources stretched thin, there are ways an organization can reduce the risks and financial impact of workplace harassment complaints. Join us as we discuss several strategies to mitigate these costs.

He said…She Said…They Said…Conflicting Stories in a Workplace Investigation…Now What?

When workplace harassment investigations have no direct witnesses to the alleged incident(s) who do you believe? The she said/he said/they said conflicting account of events is not uncommon, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t reach a conclusion. This is when credibility assessments are crucial!

How to leverage critical thinking to foster collaboration & organizational effectiveness

How often do we take the time to take a systematic approach to improving efficiencies or effectiveness? Change can be scary so we can often get stuck in a rut of carrying on as we always have. Without an impetus for change we may never find the motivation to strive for better results in a cohesive way and complacency can set in. It’s time to step away from the day-to-day pressures and contemplate what you and your organization might be missing out on and to challenge yourself to ask if you too might be stuck in a rut.
