Bio

Leslie Frattolin is a management-side employment and labour law lawyer. Leslie works with organizations of all sizes to solve workplace and human resource problems. She routinely work with employers in both non-union and unionized workplaces to provide advice in all aspects of employment and labour law including hiring and departing employees, workplace restructuring, discipline and performance management, accommodation and disability management, employment contracts, workplace policies and procedures, union relations and health and safety. In addition, Leslie has significant experience with federally-regulated employers, including unjust dismissal complaints, human rights complaints and compliance under federal labour standards legislation.

Diversity & Inclusion in the Workplace: Using Data for Transformative Solutions

With an increased focus on promoting diversity & inclusion initiatives and results in the workplace, many organizations are left considering what information can be asked and collected of its candidates and employees, and for what purposes it can be used. This session will provide an overview of the law on these questions, including human rights and privacy regulation, and provide practical solutions on how a diversity & inclusion strategy can be balanced with an organizations' obligations under the law.

Getting the Medical Information You Need to Manage Employee Disabilities

This session will provide an overview of an employer's duty to accommodate and what information an employer is entitled to obtain to assess accommodation, particularly in the context of an employee's medical condition. We'll discuss the obligations under human rights legislation, the types of information that an employer is entitled to and work through a series of challenging scenarios that are common in the workplace.

The Basics: The Fundamentals of Employment Law

This session will provide an establishment of the foundations of employment law including a high-level overview of employment standards, human rights legislation, health and safety requirements, and how these topics weave their way into the every-day of a human resource professional.

New and Emerging Issues in Labour and Employment Law

This topic will address recent updates in employment law, including increasing difficulties in enforcing contractual termination clauses, new legislation introduced in Ontario including a restriction on non-competition covenants, right to disconnect policies, and other developments that will impact the workplace and human resource professionals.
