Setting Boundaries While Family Building: Protect Youself, Your Support System & Your Future Child

Individuals building their family through fertility treatments, adoption, surrogacy, or donor conception often encounter unhelpful advice, criticism, and outdated myths. Setting boundaries can be challenging due to fear of rejection and being seen as rude, resulting in internalization of comments and potential isolation from loved ones. Longer wait times and a diminishing support system further impact coping abilities. When the child joins the family, negative encounters can affect both the parents and the child.

In this presentation, I will provide strategies for setting boundaries and effective communication for pre-adoptive parents and professionals. By equipping them with these skills beforehand, we can help maintain a healthy support system during the waiting period and ensure the future child's protection from similar encounters.

Finding Your Pathway to Parenthood and Releasing Your Inner People-Pleaser

Making decisions during the process of family building can be especially challenging for people-pleasers. The overwhelming desire to keep others happy often leads to neglecting one's own needs and desires. This presentation will explore the emotional and psychological complexities involved in balancing the expectations of others with the pursuit of personal fulfillment.

Through engaging discussions and practical exercises, we will delve into the impact of people-pleasing on decision-making, self-advocacy, and overall well-being. Discover strategies to break free from the constraints of people-pleasing, assert boundaries, and make choices that align with your own values and aspirations.

Moreover, we will address the importance of building a strong support system that understands and respects your journey. Learn effective communication techniques to express your needs and navigate potential conflicts with loved ones, ensuring a more nurturing and understanding environment.
