Heidi Fliegelman is an 8th Grade English Language Arts teacher in Delaware, where she also co-advises S.A.G.A. (the Sexuality and Gender Alliance extracurricular) and helps organize their activism and inclusion-based projects.
A University of Delaware alum, besides student teaching, Heidi also spent her undergraduate career heavily involved with E-52 Student Theatre. With E-52, Heidi served as a director (You Can’t Take It With You, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Matchmaker, Check Please!), actor (1984, The Skin of Our Teeth, Rumors), producer, and one-act writer. This past winter, she directed the Emanon Players’ production of Murder on the Orient Express at Penncrest High School— the very place in which she first learned how to direct as a student herself (Harvey, The Importance of Being Earnest). By summer, you can find her creating and teaching at West Chester Studio for the Performing Arts.
In October 2021, Heidi presented her first ever TEDxTalk, entitled "How the struggles of today can build the schools of tomorrow" at TEDxUniversityofDelaware. She also presented projects at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) 2020 Virtual Conference, and the University of Delaware 2020 Summer Scholars Undergraduate Research Symposium.
