Bio #1

When you need someone who is smarter than a Jack Russell terrier and funnier than a six pack of funny bones, I'm it. I am the voice of lived experience in the world of trauma, and an international expert in creating trauma-responsive systems. I've graced the cover of Successful Meetings for MPI with Molly Ivins, Guy Kawasaki, and Colin Powell for my straight porch talk about change. I love nothing better that making your event the best ever!

Change, Trauma, Resilience!

Elizabeth Power, M.Ed., of Nashville, TN in the United States doesn’t play country music, but she sure does make peoples’ lives sing. Barrier-busting, change-making, life-transforming? That’s her work.

Power, a skilled facilitator and speaker, works with groups around the world. She helps them increase access to their genius through learning how to gain access to and nurture their personal genius during times of change. She’s smart, she’s sassy, she’s funny—and right on the money when it comes to mastering change!

Her skill in this field comes from her own transformation from, as she says “a dedicated victim” to “an emboldened genius.” Overcoming great difficulties in childhood helped her master the inevitability of change through the power of choice, which became her hope for self-determination. This effort resulted in multiple media appearances and gracing the cover of Successful Meetings as a Hot Speaker to Watch.

A published author in multiple fields, Power is a frequently sought after speaker, consultant, and coach to many. Her firm EPower & Associates, sponsors The Trauma-Informed Academy (thetraumainformedacademy.com) and works with organizations wrestling with change-related issues.

Taking Charge of Change

This program is great when organizational or individual change occurs and ranges in length from a keynote to a two-day retreat. It covers the dynamics of change, how to separate feelings from facts, why we are so addicted to failure, and how to switch self-discipline from self-abusive behavior to discipling the self.

Trauma-Informed Care, Trauma-Responsive Living

Being Trauma-Informed is just that: knowing about trauma and how it impacts people. All too often, it doesn't translate to Trauma-Responsive Living, where people put into everyday action what we know about how traumatic experiences affect people (and their descendants!). That's the stuff we really need to know!

While this program (keynote to two-day retreat) equips people to say they are "trauma-informed," it also goes the next step with practical everyday tools for self, family, friends, pets, and clients. Interactive, actually fun, and deeply impacting. Evidence-informed program combines Emotional Intelligence and trauma psychology.

Amplifying Resilience through Self-Care

I've seen videos that tell us that "you can do anything if you call it self-care," and I am here to tell you it ain't so--but there is a solution! Learning how to use a simple, 7-point scale to see which area your self-care addresses jacks up the value of your self-care dramatically. The addition of the meaning-making process cements every act of self-care in a different way, helping to decrease stress, and increase resilience in simple yet powerful ways. Evidence-informed, combining proven models with common sense.

The Sacredness of Trauma

Simply put, faith communities aren't ready for members to share their stories without an automatic referral for mental health care, or turning away. It's easy to become the "Other" very quickly if you have a tale of woe. But have they ever looked carefully at their own scripture? Two things stand out: the number of stories that include traumatic events, and the number of tools for healing those same scriptures offer. We talk about all of that, and help them prepare for creating containers where people can share. For any tradition with a Book. This presentation is available as a keynote to two day retreat.
