Mental Health is a topic often shoved under the rug by many as it digs on issues related to negative emotions and reactions such as fear, anxiety, shame, blame, guilt, resentment and hatred. To be precise, it is often taboo and unspoken but Elena Tong is stepping up to speak on these topics in a different light.

There’s this saying, “Never judge a book by its cover” and this often applies strongly to Elena as her bubbly, friendly and playful nature often causes many to assume that she had never experienced suffering in her life. But behind all of these is a lady filled with wisdom, strength, courage and hope.

Often her speaking engagements would leave the room momentarily silent and speechless as Elena shares her life struggles with depression, body shaming, sexual violence, losing her mum + business and suicidal ideation. She then shares some techniques, and her personal understanding of the mind to help others bridge the gap they are experiencing in life. And as a speaker, Elena Tong challenges her audiences to reflect within themselves for the answers pertaining to their life experiences and their dreams. Her honesty and vulnerable sharing empowers her audience to see the light even in the darkest of times.

As a Human Abundance Coach and a mental wellness & empowerment advocate, this powerhouse speaker aims to ignite the light of hope again in humanity. She works towards understanding the needs of every client to creatively design a personalised session that is suited for their audience - be it in topics related to, but not limited to mental health empowerment, women empowerment, body positivity, self-redemption, the power of the mind and/or living a fulfilling purposeful life.

Elena is also an author together with her two other friends, Eileyn Chua and Cordelia Lee. Together, they formed the brand, “The Spunky, The Rebel & A Mama” as they share stories of positively overcoming life adversities through their 2 chapbooks - “Life, Love & Passion: A book of Poems” and “Snippets of Life”, which are for sale. They also conduct workshops, give speeches and serve as empowerment coaches for others.

Elena Tong has started her journey in various areas of the education industry since 2008. Her greatest joy is when she finds herself working with others through self-awareness & empowerment programs. With that, she explored in youth development & empowerment in both the corporate world and the non-profit industry.

She was the project strategist for Taylor’s Community, a project under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) & Communication Group for Taylor’s Education Group. Her focus apart from strategizing projects was corporate, volunteer & beneficiary management, volunteer altruistic training and aligning program development modules. She was also the main trainer for the “Program Keusahawanan Taylor’s-CIMB Islamic Program Keusahawanan” for the year 2018 & 2019 working with over 200 entrepreneurs in their business proposals.

In her years with a non-profit organization – CyberCare Youth Organization, she & her colleague recreated their flagship projects “Make A Difference (MAD)” and the “Self-empowering and Transition Employability Programme (STEP)”. These programs are designed for both underprivileged & refugee youths from ages 13 to 19 with the MAD program focusing on the youths realizing their own potential and empowering them to create & deliver a community project while STEP provides informed career-related decisions in preparation for independence adulthood through exposure to real-world challenges. These programs also provide volunteers basic coaching skills to support these youths in their challenges.

Elena has run other community-based projects in partnership with ExxonMobil Malaysia, UNHCR Malaysia, Accenture Malaysia, Yayasan Salam, CIMB Islamic, Majlis Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Malaysia (MKKM), Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO) and Incitement Malaysia. She also worked closely with various beneficiaries such as Dignity For Children, Chin Student Organization Malaysia, Fugee School, SOLS 24/7, Lembaga Zakat Malaysia and several other children’s homes & Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) within the Klang Valley.
