This is where emotional intelligence comes into play. Simply relying on edicts and mandates to encourage D & I will only have limited success, it must be intrinsic – and it can be as individuals begin to “do” emotional intelligence, not just know it. It means, overcoming cognitive dissonance.

But what is EQ… really? An awareness of this is extremely important for today’s workplace and in relationships in general. Emotional intelligence (EI) is vital to be an effective leader, coworker, member of team or creating and maintaining satisfying personal relationships. People skills have now become more important as a culture of teamwork and partnerships takes precedence over being an independent contributor.
