Initiating his career at State Farm in 1972, Don quickly established himself as a dedicated and insightful agent. By 1995, he had achieved recognition as the top State Farm agent in the United States and Canada, a status he proudly maintained multiple times throughout his tenure.

Seeking new challenges and the opportunity to leverage his deep industry knowledge, Don ventured out on his own in 2008 to establish Don Bullard Insurance in Wilmington, North Carolina. His transition to an independent agency owner at 59 allowed him to apply a client-centered approach more broadly, attracting a diverse client base and offering a wide range of insurance products. Under his leadership, the agency grew to match his success at State Farm, serving over 20,000 households by 2016 with an extensive array of insurance offerings.

Before his notable career in insurance, Don served as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army. His military service began immediately after graduating high school, including three tours in Vietnam. The skills and discipline he acquired during his service, which earned him several military honors, including two Distinguished Flying Crosses and a Purple Heart, profoundly influenced his professional demeanor and approach to business challenges.

Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Don was deeply invested in the Wilmington community. His commitment was most evident in his dedicated support to a special needs child, whose educational and personal development he supported for over a decade.

Now in retirement, Don Bullard enjoys a quieter life filled with travel, boating, and cruising—pursuits that allow him to enjoy the fruits of his long and successful career.
