Geoff Malone, also known as Ahjan Samvara, established the Awakened Mind Buddhist Meditation Center, located in San Francisco, in 1999. As of 2023, he has retired from teaching meditation and mindfulness to focus on global humanitarian work, sharing the Buddhist wisdom and compassion that he's cultivated throughout his career and personal life.
Ajhan Samvara's philanthropic efforts have included organizing and fundraising for Maiti Nepal / Friends of Maiti Nepal (fighting to end the human trafficking of women and children), fundraising for the Mahadeva Malai Temple in India, fundraising for the Arunachala Animal Center in India, helping to set up a memorial fund for the late Acharya Tshewang Khenpo, fundraising for Kiva (crowdfunding small business loans for borrowers who are typically marginalized or excluded from financing and/or who are creating positive social impact in their local communities), and collecting and delivering much needed medical supplies and medication to the non-profit Clinica Esperanza in Roatan, Honduras.
As a former spiritual teacher, Ajhan Samvara mainly taught meditation, mindfulness practice, and bodhicitta (compassion) for over twenty years.
