A former U.S. Army combat medic, I have completed multiple tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Bosnia; I will tell you that none of those experiences affected me as much as the trauma I suffered when a male teacher methodically groomed and raped me when I was 15. I discuss societal paradigms, biases, and mental models pertaining to male victims of sexual assault, untreated depression, and creating an organizational climate that inspires moral courage.
