Bio #1

Known as "The HR Lady", Wendy is a disruptor of traditional HR and leadership. As your witty and energetic event speaker, Wendy is authentic and transparent - above all, she keeps it real. She is honest, loyal and direct - there is never any sugar coating! She has worked with hundreds of corporations and associations conducting training and development and HR advisory services. She has experience as an HR Executive/ Director, an HR Advisor, a Board Member, and an adjunct faculty member.

While she is not looking to make history, she desires to be the change she wants to see in this world. She says, "I speak up and challenge the status quo. I ask controversial questions". She has helped hundreds of executives and leaders increase organizational productivity, leading to increased profits, and a strong bottom line.

Wendy is an HR expert who focuses on being relatable without overcomplicating things. She has many topics, however, two of the most popular are:

Three Things Leaders Should Know (1) Your personality annoys us, (2) Common sense isn't common and (3) You suck at communicating; and

Five Ways Employees Drive Us Crazy (1) They don't listen, (2) They make so many mistakes (3) They have no common sense (4) They have an entitlement mentality and (5) They just don't care

Both of these humorous sessions are about reflecting as a leader and asking the question: Am I part of the problem? Employees, managers, and leaders will come out of these events with a new perspective to change their work-place immediately.

Contact Wendy for many other speaking topics related to HR and Leadership including but not limited to:

1. Understanding all Generations to Improve Communication

2. Preparing for 2025 by Retaining & Engaging Millennials

3. Understanding Personality Styles to Improve Productivity

4. Emotional Intelligence & Common Sense - It Is Not What You Think!

5. Ownership Mindset - Get Your Team in The Game

6. Five Ways to Destroy Your Business (Or Not!)

7. Preventing Harassment with a Respectful and Inclusive Workplace (a separate session on rudeness and civility is also available)

8. Vision, Mission, Values - The glue that holds on an organization together

10. Three Things Leaders Should Know

Wendy Sellers is also an author of the leadership book "Suck It Up, Buttercup. Be a leader people will follow."

Becoming The HR Lady ®

After completing my undergraduate degree early and then my Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration in Northeastern PA, I headed to the Sunshine State (Florida) to start my career. I just wasn’t sure what that meant yet because I was not at all thrilled with the slow pace of healthcare administration. I was in an elevator with my paper resume, headed to an interview when a woman got in and asked if I could do HR. I told her I probably could figure it out. Well, it turns out she was a recruiter and had a role for me at a small architectural engineering firm in the Orlando area. Let me tell you that those two degrees did not prepare me for dealing with employees. However, they did prepare me for a boatload of compliance nightmares and critical thinking. I eventually returned to school (again) to get a Master’s in Human Resources and then a handful of HR-related certifications and licensures, too (some were actually useful).

That small firm grew organically and then through mergers and acquisitions across the nation and eventually the world. Fortunately, I had a fantastic set of leaders there that allowed me to grow.

I have over 25 years of experience in supervisor & manager training, HR education, leadership development, HR operations, corporate culture, recruiting, downsizing, change management, strategy, and coaching. I offer Management Training, HR Advice, and Tools to Attract and Retain People. Your people are my business.

My additional experience has been acquired through experience in companies of different categories, sizes, and ownership types – including for-profits, non-profits, government agencies, and defense contractors. I aim to guide your company through periods of change using uncomplicated training, advisory services, and easy-to-access HR products.

My vision is “To help leaders create successful companies from which employees do not desperately want a vacation from“.

I am a supporter of Human Rights, Veterans & Homelessness initiatives. It only takes one person to make a difference! PS: My first professional job was as an intern at an Adult Day Care, and that was a cakewalk compared to HR – where adults think HR is their daycare center. Now, I teach managers to manage, not simply run to HR with every challenge.

I desire to be the change I want to see in this world. I speak up and challenge the status quo. I ask controversial questions. I am passionate about giving back and educating others on not only leadership but the day-to-day management of human beings – aka: “HR Reality – no BS here.”

Five Ways Our Employees Drive Us Crazy

Five Ways Our Employees Drive Us Crazy

(1) They don't listen
(2) They make so many mistakes
(3) They have no common sense
(4) They have an entitlement mentality
(5) They just don't care

This is also a humorous session about reflecting as a manager or leader. We will review each point and analyze WHY employees do things to drive us crazy. Hint: It is most likely their manager using ineffective strategies of (1) clear two way communication, (2) training and development methods, (3) making assumptions about their skills, (4) forgetting that it is 2019 not 1990 and (5) not engaging employees effectively.

3 Things Leaders Should Know

Three Things Leaders Should Know (If Leaders Only Knew What We Really Think Of Them)

(1) Your personality annoys us
(2) Common sense isn't common and
(3) You suck at communicating

This humorous session is about reflecting as a professional and asking the question: "Am I part of the problem?" Employees, managers, and leaders will come out of these events with a new perspective to change their workplace behaviors and actions immediately. Participants will learn about the 4 personality styles using the DiSC model and how the differences can cause (and resolve) interpersonal conflict. We will dive into the fact that common sense is actually a set of skills learned by a common group of people and why it is imperative to take away judgment and offer to teach the skills that are lacking. And finally, the concept of active listening through distractions will be spotlighted through a short group activity.
