University of Houston-Downtown Communication Studies Department held its second annual Public Speaking Competition in November, 2017. Monetary awards were given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Elizabeth A. Ruiz won 1st place at the University of Houston-Downtown 2017 Public Speaking Competition. The theme was to speak about the true story of overcoming adversity. The speech was about surviving 9/11 & how to not wait for a crisis situation to follow your dreams.
