Personal Details

Bio

I'm Shea Belsky, the Chief Technology Officer of Mentra. We're on a mission to activate the potential of the 1 in 7 neurodivergent people worldwide. Mentra's goal is to address the 40% underemployment and unemployment rate of neurodivergent jobseekers.

I was diagnosed with autism at a young age, and have been through the public school system, graduated from Cornell University, and navigated the workforce as a neurodivergent changemaker.

I've worked at companies like Wayfair, HubSpot, Google, and IBM in the past as a Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead, and ERG Lead. My personal "battlecry" is to create a world of accessibility, equity, and ultimately liberation - Which is to say, liberation to be authentic and genuine in a society that often looks down on neurodivergent people as being broken or different. To quote Eric Garcia in his stellar book - "We're Not Broken".

In my stories, lived experiences, and expertise, I aim to provide actionable and meaningful insight into neurodiversity. I want to give people something they can relate to and identify with, while still teaching them something new and transforming their perspective on neurodiversity. Through my perspectives, history as a leader, manager, and peer to neurodivergent and neurotypical people, and my work in helping other organizations become neuroinclusive, I want to unlock a new way of approaching the idea of thinking differently - of being neurodistinct.

Becoming an A11y: Why Accessibility Matters to Everyone

90% of websites are inaccessible to people with disabilities who rely on assistive technology. Companies everywhere are failing to accommodate a significant portion of the world’s population by not investing in accessible websites. By becoming an a11y—which stands for “accessibility”—and building websites that are universally accessible, you’re helping to make the internet a more equitable place. Learn best practices and the ways you can build universally accessible websites from Shea Belsky, Senior Software Engineer at HubSpot.
