Bio

Born and raised in the picturesque landscape of the Puget Sound in Washington State, Zane McCune embarked on his Masonic journey in 2007 in Verity Lodge No. 59 with an earnest determination to make a lasting impact. His path to success within the fraternity is marked by milestones that reflect his passion and dedication.

A Past Master of Verity Lodge No. 59, he has also served the Grand Lodge of Washington in several capacities such as Grand Orator, Grand Lecturer and Deputy of the Grand Master. Zane has also served on numerous Grand Lodge committees over his years as a Freemason, but the one he is most passionate about is chairing the Lodge Leadership Training Program, which conducts a weekend long seminar for lodge officers and teaches classes which are designed to help lodges succeed.

In recognition of his contributions, Zane is a past recipient of the prestigious Hiram Award and the Grand Master's Achievement Award. He is also a prior winner of the annual Senior Warden State Ritual Competition.

Zane was the Keynote Speaker at the Conference of Grand Masters of Masons in North America in 2024 and is a sought-after guest speaker at various lodges and Masonic conferences in the area. His thought-provoking presentations on Masonic Education have enlightened and inspired countless brethren.

Outside of Freemasonry, Zane leads a fulfilling personal life. He has been happily married for more than 20 years and is a loving father to three children. In addition to his Masonic pursuits, he is an accomplished musician, enriching the lives of those around him with his musical talents.

A Hero’s Journey. The Initiation of Pinocchio

At first blush, Pinocchio is a whimsical fairy tale of a wooden marionette, however it conceals a great spiritual allegory to be passed on for generations. In this presentation we will lift the veil to reveal the symbolic elements cleverly weaved into the story.
The Masonic origins and underlying Jungian archetypes will resonate with Freemasons interested in the esoteric nature of the Craft.

Harmony of the Spheres

Dive into Pythagoras, the Golden Ratio, music and harmony. This is both symbolic and operative in understanding of music and ratios.

Circumpunct, A Point Within a Circle

Various perspectives of the point within a circle, a fundamental symbol for Freemasons. However, it’s not uniquely Masonic. Includes mathematical, ancient usage, Masonic, and alchemical usages. This also includes a very interesting section on Sacred Geometry that usually fascinates most Masons that haven’t been exposed to this topic yet.

Symbolism of the Entered Apprentice Degree

Draws heavily on writings of Albert Mackey. For example, what is the Rite of Circumambulation and why do we use it. A lot of explanation behind the various sections of our EA degree and symbolism that is used. Suitable for all Masons.

Symbolism of the Fellow Craft Degree

Suitable for Fellowcraft and Master Masons only

Symbolism of the Master Mason Degree

We explore the documented origins and history of the early Craft, use of Hiramic legend, Mt Hermon, and Jerusalem. We visit early concepts of initiation from other mystery schools and how they parallel Freemasonry. Suitable for Master Masons only

Developing Ritual

Ritual is an important aspect of Freemasonry. Not only can it inspire your candidate, it is an opportunity to develop your current Masons of your lodge. This presentation defines a successful degree night, shares best practices and explores ways to groom a new generation of ritualists for your lodge. Make the most out of degree night!

Restoration of the Craft

For many lodges, attracting new members is important and yet so many lodges struggle to grow. This presentation approaches membership growth by examining the lodge experience and how this impacts retention and growth. Membership is now coming from men of four generations, each with a different perspective on life and expectation from their lodge. Is your lodge well positioned for growth?

Masonic Education in Lodge

What separates our lodge meetings from any other business meeting? Masonic Education. More than simple facts and trivia, Masonic Education is what men joining the Fraternity today are seeking out. This class offers ideas and lays out a plan to help develop this within your lodge.
