Bio

I'm Dr. Tracy-ann Aston and I help STEM settings inspire girls & women to pursue a career in science. I am the author of The Really Useful Book of Science Experiments and The Really Useful Book of Secondary School Science Experiments.

I am a passionate champion for the greater participation of women in STEM subjects and careers. If science is to serve society, it must do so by having the group that makes up 51% of the population taking an active role.

My own love affair with science began when I was a child-I can not pin point the exact date as I simply can not remember a time when I did not consider myself a 'scientist'. From my first telescope to attempting to breed snails in my back garden, science has always been a part of my life.

My love of science soon turned into a love of teaching science when I discovered there was a job that involved talking about science all day. I have been teaching science since 2006 and have worked with children from 6 years old up to 18 (and beyond!).

I help STEM educational settings such as schools, colleges, universities, and other educational organisations such as museums, create an inclusive and inspiring place for girls and women.

For speaking events, I deliver presentations and talks to a wide-range of audiences (both academic and non-academic) on the topic of girls and women in STEM.

My research background ensures that my talks contain reliable and up-to-date statistics.

I am not afraid to tackle controversial subjects and to explore the current debates within STEM education.
