Timothy Gardiner began his law enforcement year in 2008 with the Birmingham Police Department in Alabama. After working in patrol 5 years, he was transferred to the Community Service Division where he served as a School Resource Officer and Community Project Coordinator. In 2018, Timothy was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned as a Patrol and Training Supervisor, School Resource Officer, Police Liaison with the Birmingham Emergency Communications Department and Adjunct Training Instructor teaching mental health, suicide awareness/intervention and officer wellness. In 2021, Tim took a position with the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Parole working in an intensive supervision program designed to assist newly released offenders in being successful. Tim is currently assigned to the Birmingham Field Office. Prior to law enforcement, Timothy United States Marine Corps combat veteran, and as a Volunteer Firefighter in 3 states. Timothy and his wife Season travel around the world when they get free time.
Tim has seen and experienced firsthand the stress and crisis our veterans and first responders go through on a continuous basis. He has continuously sought out training and opportunities to be able to help those in need. Tim teaches Preventing Law Enforcement Suicide, Officer Wellness, Mental Fitness and Mental First aid to law enforcement agencies. Tim worked to establish Birmingham PD’s Peer Support and Officer Wellness program and served as it’s first chairperson. He currently serves as the Alabama Alliance for Peer Support Region G Coordinator where he provides guidance and support to over 100 Certified Peer Support Team Members across 8 counties in central Alabama. He currently serves on the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) National Consortium on Preventing Law Enforcement Suicide which has worked to provide resources and best practices to agencies all over the country. Tim also serves on multiple IACP Officer Safety and Wellness working groups (Suicide Prevention, Mental Health, Education and Legislative). He has advised law enforcement executives and elected officials on the topics of Officer Wellness and Mental Health.
