Stephen Frederico

Stephen Frederico is a medical student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, deeply committed to improving the lives of individuals affected by brain tumors. Before pursuing medicine, Stephen aspired to play Major League Baseball. However, his path shifted after losing a close friend to a devastating brain tumor. Determined to make a difference, he began researching brain tumors as an undergraduate at the College of Charleston, focusing on designing nanocarriers capable of providing targeted drug delivery to glioblastoma (GBM).

After earning his undergraduate degree, Stephen completed a Master of Science (MS) in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University, and a Master of Medical Science (MMSc) in Clinical Investigation at Harvard Medical School. His research has centered on developing innovative immunotherapies, such as adoptive cell transfer therapies, for pediatric brain tumors, and uncovering mechanisms driving pediatric brain tumor development and progression, with a focus on targeting these mechanisms using small molecule inhibitors. For his research efforts, he has received multiple fellowships and funding awards from organizations like the American Brain Tumor Association and the American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Now in medical school, Stephen is dedicated to becoming a neurological surgeon and scientist, committed to providing exceptional care for brain tumor patients while advancing novel treatments through research.
