Bio

Dr. Shaun M. Anderson is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Communication at Loyola Marymount University. From an engaged scholarship perspective, he investigates how professional sport organizations engage in corporate social responsibility with issues regarding diversity. Furthermore, he examines how athletes employ organizational justice to justify their engagement in activism. Also, he examines the impact felt obligation from biological family has on the work/life balance of African-American student athletes. His work has appeared in Psychology of Popular Media Culture, Sport Marketing Association conference proceedings, and in the book, Fantasy Sports and the Changing Sports Media Industry: Media, Players, and Society. Professionally, he has several years of industry experience which includes sports reporting for two Arkansas newspapers, television production for a top 60 DMA Fox News affiliate, public relations work for a National Basketball Association Development League team, and strategic communication consulting for various youth, collegiate, and professional sport organizations in the areas of leadership communication, organizational ethics, team building, organizational identification, and diversity. He plans to continue to his research using the engaged scholarship approach in the areas of organizational and sport communication

Communication in a Diverse World

As our society has begun to navigate a more diverse world, organizations must follow suit. This is accomplished not only by hiring more individuals from diverse backgrounds, but learning and accommodating to these individuals as well. This presentation will provide the tools necessary to successfully move forward in a diverse world.

Sport and Social Change

As athletes and sport organizations are beginning to use their platform to enact social change, understanding how to communicate their message to affect change is pertinent to their goals. This keynote will provide key insight as to how to appropriately communicate the message.

Becoming More Interconnected

As technological innovation has allowed for society to become more interconnected, newer communication platforms have made us closer to people from across the globe than ever before. This topic will focus on how to leverage new communication platforms as avenues to increase global outreach to maximize profits.
