Cognitive Behavioral Tactics (CBT): Making your brain your ally

Unknowingly, our brains are often our adversaries rather than our allies. Society contributes to this phenomenon by supporting the idea that emotions "just happen" and there is nothing we can do about them. This is a lie. By building a toolbox of cognitive-behavioral tactics, we can control the thoughts which create stress, burnout, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome, and function at our optimal levels. In this session, you will talk away with concrete, actionable ways to make your brain work for you rather than against you to be your optimized self, professionally and personally.

Walk the Talk: Helping leaders to use storytelling to create a mental wellness culture

Experts in mental health say that the most important call to action in creating a workplace culture which supports mental health is leading by example. Leaders who share their own stories regarding mental health model the culture which considers mental health as equitable to physical health. But in order for this strategy to be effective, the storytelling must be authentic and, for many leaders, it is about finding their voices and being comfortable sharing their stories.

With a continued focus on reducing stigma regarding mental health, leaders can learn the primary strategy to create a culture of support. It is through authentic storytelling that leaders can construct organizations and teams which foster awareness and action for mental wellness.

Real Imposters Don't Experience Imposter Syndrome

Real imposters don't experience imposter syndrome. But what is the psychology behind imposter syndrome? Once we know how it is created, we can identify the detriments of imposter syndrome, and why women tend to experience imposter syndrome at higher rates than men. Most importantly, you can learn and develop effective ways to make your brain your ally to combat and control imposter syndrome.

Why Powerful Women are Scary

In the 21st century, women still encounter challenges simply based upon their sex and their gender. Biases exist in hiring, in data, in societal perspectives, and even within our own beliefs about ourselves and other women. Powerful women are still viewed as scary or threatening. Changing these biases begins with understanding the underpinnings creating the challenges to then build and implement specific ways to strengthen each other, individually and collectively. Ultimately, we can arrive at a new model for leadership and networking which aligns with the strengths inherent to powerful women.

Bedroom to Boardroom: Creating equity in all areas of our lives

Women’s power is systematically and deliberately undermined. Whether through outdated societal norms, political agendas, or fear from other groups, women continue to fight for equality, equity, and basic human rights, in regards to pay, leadership, health services, and sexual wellness. As women learn to break through the "taboo" topics and have open conversations about their wants and their needs, we create a ripple effect in all areas of our lives, professionally and personally. We connect to our power, own our lives, and demand what we want, without hesitation, embarrassment, or apology.

The Cast of the A-Team: The power of allyship, advocacy, and activism in the workplace

Being an ally, an advocate, and an activist has specific impact upon an organization's workplace culture and overall business goals. Understanding the differences, and being able to identify which role you play, is essential to facilitating group culture and impacting change. Even more, learning the contributions each role has allows you to effectively navigate among these roles, allowing you and the individuals within your organization to affect the greatest outcomes.

Wingsuits @ Work: Creating psychological safety for professional risk-taking

Psychological safety is a necessary incorporation into organizational and team culture. By creating this type of culture, leaders can enhance productivity, stimulate innovation and improve employee satisfaction. This begins by understanding the characteristics of psychological safety and the strategies to create this experience for all team members, tapping into their unique and diverse perspectives to enhance organizational culture. From there, leaders learn how individual characteristics of their unique leadership styles lend themselves to supporting psychological safety. Ultimately, leaders understand the individual and organizational action steps which can successfully orchestrate effective risk taking and communication by utilizing the diversity of their team.

The Octopus in the Room: How to coalesce all the arms of your professional and personal life
4 hours
(View workshop agenda)

Society talks about finding a work-life balance, but this idea of "balance" is misleading. There is no time when the areas of life are perfectly balanced. Instead, adopting the perspective of harmony, a functional integration of all areas of life, provides you with a more effective framework to achieve health and happiness. Incorporating cognitive behavioral strategies within the subtopics of asking for what you want, burnout, imposter syndrome and perfectionism will contribute to this discussion on work-life harmony.

  • It is my pleasure to recommend Dr. Robin Buckley as a public speaker. Her recent keynote speech at the HER Conference was inspiring, informative, intellectual, interactive, and intuitive. As an audience, we laughed, we cried, and we grew. She took us on a journey of personal and professional growth that was thought-provoking, memorable, and useful. I will personally jump at the chance to hear her speak again and I will also look for the opportunity to have her speak for the organizations which I am affiliated with. In short, Robin is a very smart and a very nice person with important things to say and relevant and engaging ways of saying them. Not to be missed.

  • I was lucky enough to have Robin as our Keynote speaker for the H.E.R women’s conference. She is an amazing speaker and has a way of captivating the entire room just by her words and actions. We had some technological trouble with some slides she provided but this did not deter Robin from delivering an excellent talk and really engaging with the audience.
