Bio

Reggie Kee (d.b.a. Reggie Legend) is the author of multiple self-published books: Steel Waters VOLUME I: DUPLicate AuthentICITY, and Defacing the Music: What Slips into the Grooves Once God Gets Removed.

As an itinerant minister, youth advocate, and motivational speaker, Reggie tours school districts motivating a variety of students with material geared towards equipping and empowering youth to recognize and self-advocate for their non-academic genius rooted in overcoming painful trauma which creates both empathy and passion for others which shared experiences. Reggie's newest book, Common Genius, Uncommon Destiny is the basis of his latest workshop which relates such trauma-informed genius to the following equation:

GENIUS = PASSION + TALENT + PURPOSE

For young men who find it difficult to gain traction in secondary school, Reggie created the Kings’ Speech program to instill purpose and a sense of ownership in the one resource that makes us all rich: words. With the motto “Crowning Achievement One KING at a Time,” the students learn that they can influence their environment and determine how well they rule as kings by how well they manage the richness found in the power of words.

Reggie married his wife, Quiana Kee, in 2004 and is the father of two children who are also self-published authors, as well: Josiah Kee and Paige Turner. He and his wife were featured columnists for The Chicago Defender and are co-founders of Ink Well Spoken and Manu Forti Ministries (pronounced man-you fort-ā); which serve as the marketplace and faith-based initiatives for motivational speaking, respectively.

To house their family’s growing catalog of books as well as service the needs of other would-be authors in the community, Reggie has also birthed a self-publishing company known as Water2WinePress Publishing House.

Reggie graduated from the University of Delaware in 2000 where he earned a B.S. in Computer Engineering. He went on to earn an MBA with a concentration in Leadership Management in 2006 from Argosy University ISP.

Reggie’s impact is as follows:

Students and staff reached: 6031

Schools reached: 20

Common Genius, Uncommon Destiny

• Focus: This workshop deconstructs the notion of what it means to be a genius from an academic label to a neurodiverse trait based on PASSION*, TALENT and PURPOSE. Kings' Speech

• Focus: Empowering young men to believe that one resource they possess which makes them rich is their words. How they spend said resource determines their kingship by being a good king who spends it well by building up others; or being a bad king who spends it poorly by tearing others down. Thus, understanding that their contributions to society matter as they re-shape broken identities with the power of positive words.

21 Questions

• Focus: A portable, multi-week program brought to schools, faith-based organizations, and after-school program affording youth a safe place to ask questions and control the conversation such that they feel empowered and heard by the facilitator concerning things they have questions about that they’re typically not given the opportunity to ask by adults. Here, their voices can be heard without judgment or scrutiny as they build courage to engage in Apologetics. Feeder into Battle Camp Bible Study

  • "When Reggie teaches you can always expect the Scriptures to be conveyed with integrity. You will never have to wonder whether the students will engage. He communicates with an inner strength and precision that draws students in - and opens them up to encounter God."
    Tim Caffee
  • “Reggie did a wonderful presentation for our school for Black History month. We found his presentation to be very inspirational.”
    Cathryn Ilani
  • Reggie does a great job engaging with youth. He relates to them in many ways, usually through his words. He tells moving (and often funny!) stories and inspires young people to reach for their dreams! Through his book workshop, he has given hope to the next generation!
    Amanda Schumacher
  • I always look forward to Reggie's presentation my students. He helps unlock ideas that the students didn't even know they had. The workshops are relevant, engaging, and fun for all students and teachers. We need more voices like his to help give kids the confidence to follow their passion and meet the demands of an ever-evolving society.

  • Reggie Kee facilitated the Eastview Kings Group at Eastview Middle School in Bartlett, Illinois. He provided a sound and empowering program for our African American young men. Mr. Kee established a positive and nurturing rapport with all students. He was able to teach the students how to advocate for themselves in a responsible, purposeful, and positive way. Mr. Kee is a gifted motivational speaker who provided uplifting and engaging lessons. I highly recommend Mr. Kee to continue his work with young adults.
    Kate Bieschke
  • Mr. Reginald Kee was invited to Eastview Middle School to speak to our eighth grade AVID students. Mr. Kee was extremely motivational and empowering and kept our eighth grade students captivated with his impactful, important message. Mr. Kee’s message empowered students to take a close look at their life including their gifts, talents, and interests. Mr. Kee’s refers to this as finding and living out your “genius”. Mr. Kee’s used relevant and purposeful examples from his own life and the paths he has chosen. He kept our eighth grade students captivated by sharing his real life experiences. Mr. Kee’s shared how his life journey has brought him to authoring two books. His most current book that he is working on focuses on the negativity and effects of today’s rap music culture and the importance of sharing positive, meaningful messages in music and the arts. Mr. Kee’s did an exceptional, impactful job in sharing his “genius” with our eighth grade students and I am confident that he will make an amazing, powerful impact for many others. We are so grateful for this opportunity that Mr. Kee’s provided and look forward to him returning in the future. Please feel free to contact me for more information if needed.

  • Minister Reginald in conjunction with the Kingdom Advancement Center did a fantastic job in planning, preparing, arranging and following through in the collaborative efforts throughout the Teen Program Summer Camp. From our first meeting in the planning, dreaming and “scheming” stage of this endeavor, Reggie had a similar vision and purpose in mind to that of the original Teen Leadership Development Program that was drawn up by leadership. His ability to coordinate a meeting between many different leaders to sit down and devise a strategic action plan was outstanding. The willingness of the church (KAC) to commit to 8 weeks of Kingdom of God mentorship/discipleship in partnership with the existing program was noble and it spoke embodied the value that KAC holds in high regard of, “fostering the advancement of the Kingdom of God through strategic relationships with other church and para-church organizations…” I was very impressed with the humility exhibited in not needing to “take credit” for the development efforts that had gone into creating a 3-stage plan designed to minister to youth ages 14-18 from troubled backgrounds. The heart of Minister Kee was merely to serve and connect with the youth that were a part of this venture.
    Ben Shenkin
  • Not only did Minister Kee bring a wonderful message, he, too, was convicted by the Holy Spirit. God eloquently stripped him of himself and poured a divine message in him to minister to the youth. Before our very eyes, the congregation witnessed the Hand of God shape and fashion His anointed one for the proper delivery of His Word. In his humility, Minister Kee bowed to God’s Will and spoke a life-changing Word that even the attending adults took part of. Minister Kee did an awesome job of connecting and relating to his audience. His style of connectivity and eloquent speaking mannerism captivated what originally appeared to be an elusive and uninterested youth audience. It is my opinion that when conducting youth conferences, there has to be engagement and interaction at a level that not only draws their attention, but challenges their thinking, encourages their leadership, and exercises their life skills. Minister Kee was very successful in accomplishing each of the aforementioned factors. His message inspired confidence and humility. Bishop Michael Love, Senior Pastor, was also impressed on how Minister Kee gave way to the Holy Spirit. Minister Kee is a wonderful friend, an incredible talent, and a great man of God. I believe as the Word of God season his life and ministry, he will meet with great success in all that he does to edify the kingdom of heaven. God bless the Kingdom Advancement Center family, and thank you for your participation in our youth conference. We look forward to our continued fellowship. God bless you!
    Minister Gary Neal, Sr.
  • Reggie did a great job at presenting his material with great clarity and understanding. He was very informed about his topic and included his own life experiences that helped the teens relate better to what he was presenting. He showed great energy as he engaged the teens and maintained good eye contact with his audience.
    Roger Simmons
  • Given my friendship with Mr. Kee, I have found him to be a person who truly cares about the educational advancement of the next generation, especially when it pertains to African Americans. Further, as being a spiritual person myself, I have found that Mr. Kee strives to continue his own education advancement on the plans our Heavenly Father has for our lives. Thus, when I needed someone to speak to a group of African American students (high school – college) about college financial aid awareness/preparedness, Mr. Kee was the first and only person to come to mind. The group of students were in a 2 month pilot program geared towards assisting minority students obtain a private pilot’s license. Some of the students were in high school and others in college, but they all needed encouragement and educational knowledge in order to keep advancing. Mr. Kee’s presentation was tailored precisely to deliver the education component needed as well as offer encouragement (spiritually based) to relate to the audience. We had brought several speakers before the students prior to Mr. Kee and he was the first to obtain a collaborative response from them. I could tell, they really took to what he had to offer with their line of questions. I too was impressed with Mr. Kee’s institutional knowledge as I found myself learning information I could pass on to others. The one aspect of Mr. Kee’s delivery that impressed me the most was the fact that a person in attendance who is not a believer, told me he himself was impressed/enlightened with the PowerPoint presentation and felt no offense. At that moment it was confirmation for me that I had selected the correct person for the job. Delivering a message with a spiritual undertone such that the audience has to give respect when respect is due, regardless the side of the fence the audience is on regarding religion, is purely moving in a Christ-like manner.
    Johnny Jackson
  • I thought the presentation was great! Although the students weren’t very talkative, they were very engaged. Reggie was fun and engaged the cadets in issues that were important to them and that they cared about. He was able to adjust his presentation with shortened time without feeling or coming off rushed.
    Mac Phillips
  • The 7th and 8th graders at the Youth Leadership Academy thoroughly enjoyed Reggie’s talk about college preparation. Between his personal stories and enthusiastic delivery, Reggie kept the kids engaged and curious throughout. While the kids are years away from college, he made it seem like going to college was an enticing surety rather than an abstract and unreasonable dream. We hope to work with him going forward in the students’ academic and personal growth.
    Ryan Kepler
  • Mr. Reginald Kee provided an excellent presentation to the Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) cadets. The presenter was able to relay a complex topic such as financial planning and government resources, to a younger audience by using a visual aids and age appropriate references. His methodology was not only effective but engaging to the youth. It was evident that on conclusion of the presentation, they had a better understanding of the different types of institutions, financial planning, and resources available for college. The knowledge obtained will be of great use as they embark on their educational journey.

  • Black people and Black men need to read [Steel Waters]. If you love real hip hop with knowledge put behind it this is the book for you. No faking da funk str8 what we need; a smart black man with no agenda just his take on our culture and soul.
    Brandon Hughes
  • Imma do a little shameless advertising right now...everyone needs to get a copy of this book by my man Reggie Kee ...this man is talented with the pen and if y’all don’t pick it up, you’re missing out and don’t say I didn’t warn you
    Trey Rogers
  • I Knew Reggie was a powerful speaker and that his poetry could influence the mind of many individuals, but this time I gave him a challenge which he approached amazingly. He was able to incorporate history and poetry into his presentation and put a modern appeal on it for those who were listening. He was able to remind and inform us of the great African Americans in our history and what we have the capability of doing. After the talk I had people walk up to me and ask where I was able to find a speaker like this. He made the event one of the best it has been in a very long time.

  • Reggie Legend is a dynamic motivational speaker who has a gift to mentor youth. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience with financial aid and college preparation. Reggie speaks words of wisdom as he shares his story of finding the right scholarship to finance his college education and his tenacity to finish college through adversity. He challenges each youth to live up to their full potential by inspiring them to dream and set goals for the future. I would highly recommend Reggie Legend as a speaker for youth groups and organizations for college preparation and financial aid.
    Tammy Jackson
  • We brought Reggie for the day to our SIUE Charter High School located in East St. Louis, IL. Subsequently, I gave evaluation forms to the faculty. To a person, they gave Reggie the highest marks for being able to relate to kids. (And he related to all of us as well.) Reggie spoke to individual English classes about the writing process, spent one class session with s few of our students about whom the faculty is concerned for behavioral reasons, and also gave an all-school assembly. I highly recommend Reggie Legend for any event in which he can interact with young people. Without being preach-y and with kind and patient tolerance, Reggie was open and stood firmly by his points of view. The kids responded beautifully. Reggie also went “the second mile” for us staying until way past closing to sign autographs for kids. I highly recommend him for any event in which high school or middle school students are involved.
    Gloria Reading
  • I’ve heard Reggie Legend on many occasions. What impressed me most was his ability to connect with the audience. He’s very engaging with a clear understanding that comes across with power. His passion for the subjects that he covered was both refreshing and encouraging. His commitment to excellence is obvious and contagious.
    Jon Pierre Badie
  • Reggie is passionate about his craft! He engages the audience with topics that stimulate the mind and touch the heart. After participating in this summit, I contacted Reggie to speak at a youth enrichment program and fortunately he was available to speak today! Again I was impressed by Reggie’s capacity to present information in a teen friendly manner. The message on college readiness was relevant and well received. Thank you!
    Letitia Robinson
  • It was an honor to have the opportunity to hear Reggie share his poetry in person. The pieces presented at the community event integrated motivating themes such as the need to understand the past, the spiritual foundation of choices we make and our potential to transform. Reggie’s poetry allows the audience to connect to his deeply spiritual reflections through lyrical language that leaves us intrigued and introspective. I look forward to hearing Reggie present his work again soon.
    Ushmah Shah
  • Reggie has an incredible ability to direct his creativity with laser-like precision on topics that capture the attention of youth and adults alike. He demonstrated a real depth of knowledge about the issues facing today’s African American youth and the impact on academic performance. Unlike so many speakers who talk “at” the audience, Reggie talked “with” us and stimulated critical thinking and interesting conversation about the topic. Whether the audience is youth or adults focused on youth-related issues, Reggie has insight that he delivers in a powerful, creative way. I highly recommend him.
    Tracy Ellis
  • Reggie was the invited Guest Speaker for South Elgin High School Minority Students Alliance Reggie was able to engage a diverse group of adolescents in an interactive discussion that enabled the group to easily think about the consequences, positive and/or negative of their everyday activity or inactivity. The students are requesting his reading material, that he return to the high school, and continue to refer to the forums that he facilitated. This aftermath of Reggie’s discussions with these adolescent is a testament to his ability to Motivate and Inspire youth to a positive change. He directs his creativity into his writing and by explaining his creative process, he gives young audiences images of their own possibility. I highly recommend Reggie for any group interested in positive youth development! Reggie has a very natural way of engaging young people in almost any topic.

  • Reggie Legend is one of the most poignant and profound poets that I have ever come across in my tenure as a professional in Hip-Hop. He’s got the fire of one of the finest poets, but the potency of an Ivy League scholar. Steel Waters is the culmination of many years of training and life experience where a man has finally found his time to shine. I am proud to say that he contributed to AllHipHop.com with this level of intelligence and insight.
    Chuck Creekmur
  • Reggie Legend's work has and continues to have a great impact into the hearts and minds of all his message reaches! His work is nothing less than stellar. -Bruce George, Founder of the Genius is Common Movement, Co-Founder of Def Poetry Jam on HBO.

  • Reggie came to speak to my group of high school students last February, and everyone had great things to say about it afterwards! It was a fun, interactive, and motivating session, and we appreciated that he put a black history spin on it to be more relatable for our students. We all left feeling inspired to use our unique passions, talents, and purpose to make our own impact in the world. Thank you, Reggie!

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to share your passion. I had a laugh though because you're not the only one who learned how to ride a bike in your thirties. I too share that fun fact. I would love to connect with my director of Special Education to see about having you work with our SPED teachers to better understand their genius. I want to reignite the fire in our staff and have that trickle down to our students. Thank you again for a wonderful session.

  • "Common Genius. Uncommon Destiny" by Reginald Kee is one of those books that makes you feel like you’re having a real conversation with the author (and let’s be honest, that’s rare). The way it’s written—with the main thoughts followed by these little parenthetical additions that add so much depth and personality—felt so natural to me. I tell stories the same way, so it really hit home. With getting to know Reggie, I can attest to his authenticity and insight. Eye-opening. (Seriously, how often do you read something and think, “Wow, this person actually gets how I think”?) If you’re looking for a book that’s not just inspiring but also makes you feel seen, this is it.

  • “I just left an amazing workshop! Everything that [Reggie] spoke about is literally everything that I thought about in my mind - especially as a teacher. I see my students day in and day out, especially those that come from different countries and are English language learners; they are so unmotivated. They don't see themselves portrayed in American Society and they really just don't know where to go, but in [Reggie] explanation of the various learning styles, it resonated in me that I'm doing everything that I need to do as an educator and also as a student who's focusing on how we can make our education system better for all of our children!”

  • Reggie is an incredible man with a rare combination of talent, dedication, and heart. He has guided me in becoming the best version of myself, and I am truly grateful for his impact on my life. Reggie is one of the hardest-working and most committed individuals I know, and I’m proud to now call him a friend. He has a unique gift with words. The way he expresses emotions, thoughts, and the complexities of life is powerful, clear, and relatable. He can take deep feelings and make them understandable and meaningful to anyone. If you don’t know Reggie yet, I strongly encourage you to reach out and connect with him. Let him share his story and vision with you. You will not regret it.
