Bio

As an Entrepreneur, Public Speaker, and School Shooting Survivor, I have never let a challenge overpower me. Today, I have the honor and privilege of sharing my testimony not only as a survivor, but also as a leader. During my 7+ years of Career and Technical Education involvement, I have served two terms as a New Mexico BPA State Officer and recently became the 2021 1st Place recipient in the National BPA Entrepreneurship competition. It is now my mission to share my testimonies across the world to push school safety while on the other hand, empowering student leaders to rise above the standard. I am Nathaniel Tavarez.

Going through the Motions

I shared my testimony with a Youth Bible Study group out of Nashville, TN where I provided insight into my experience as a school shooting survivor and how I overcame the many obstacles that followed. My 7+ years of student leadership development was brought into the conversation when I opened up the floor for questions. This is when I shared my student leadership journey along with the challenges I conquered throughout those times as well.

Various Perspectives on School Safety Initiatives

At a community-wide event in Lubbock, TX, I had the pleasure of sharing my research findings on the various perspectives regarding school safety initiatives. These perspectives ranged from multiple stakeholders on the issue of gun violence in schools such as mental health professionals, parents/legal guardians, students, school faculty, and policy makers. These perspectives provided a strong message to the attendees as it assisted in implementing a new campaign called Stop, Lock, and Store, which educates students and their families on proper gun safety.
