Bio

My name is Michael Jamin and for the past 23 years I’ve been a professional sitcom writer. Some of my writing credits include:

King of the Hill

Beavis & Butthead

Wilfred

Just Shoot Me

Brickleberry

Out of Practice

Lopez and

Rules of Engagement

I’ve also had the privilege of serving as showrunner on:

Maron

Glenn Martin DDS and

Rhett & Link’s Buddy System

For the past 11 years, I’ve also been co-owner of TwirlyGirl, a unique line of girls clothing created by my wife. Even though I have no formal background in business, I’ve helped grow TwirlyGirl from $200,000 in annual revenue to millions. I was able to do this because of my background in storytelling.

Recently, I’ve been invited to give a number of public speaking gigs. Because I’m a comedy writer, my talks were both educational and funny. (My ego is too fragile to go more than two minutes without making someone laugh.) I have a lot of fun when I’m speaking, and I know my audiences have gotten a lot of value from my talks. So I’d love to carve out time to speak more often.

I have two subjects that I’m prepared to speak about. Of course these can be modified:

How to Tell Your Brand’s Story - This is particularly helpful to marketing departments and entrepreneurs. Marketing experts often talk about the importance of telling your brand’s story. But rarely do they explain how to do that. I break down the steps required to tell an engaging story from a screenwriter’s perspective, then I demonstrate how to apply that to marketing campaigns.

How to Manage People like a Showrunner - People become comedy writers not to manage… but to be subversive! Effectively managing people is a skill that most of us have to learn. These are the lessons I’ve learned as a showrunner that have united and motivated crews of very diverse, but creative people.

How to Manage People like a Hollywood Showrunner

I didn’t become a comedy writer to manage people. I did it for the exact opposite reason — to be subversive! But when I rose to the rank of showrunner, I had to learn how to effectively manage people. These are the hard-won lessons that Hollywood has taught me. Lessons on how to motivate creative people to work towards a common goal.
