Putting 1 Million New Words into the Dictionary

PyCon is the world’s largest conference about everything concerning the Python Programming language, with more than 3000 attendees. In this talk, I presented novel Natural Language Processing algorithms that can automatically find definitions for new words on the internet.

Age of Centaurs: The Rise of Hybrid AI

In this talk, I address questions of how AI and humans can work together on increasing human productivity instead of displacing human jobs, and how this will affect the economics of the service sector.

Keynote: On Being a Lone Wolf Data Scientist

A “Lone Wolf” Data Scientist is the only data scientist on their team or even in their company. As a consulting firm, we are often played exactly this role, or are brought on to support other solitary data scientists. I talked about the challenges and opportunities of being the lone wolf.

Chatbots & Hybrid AI

At the Open Data Science Conference, I talked about how Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning gave rise to the popularity of “Chatbots”, and how they transform how business can interact with their customers.

Natural Born Cyborgs: The Neuroscience and Philosophy of Tool Use

Drawing from my experience as a Neuroscience researcher, I demonstrated how tools such as a mouse pointer can become natural extensions of the user and explain the neuroscience behind the process. But I’ll also show that tools change us, and in fact even change how we see the world.

The Shape Of Data To Come

In this talk, I addressed how the need for data science in business is changing, based on my experiences of running a data science and machine learning consulting firm. I talked about the importance of Natural Language Processing to harness the world’s unstructured data and turn it into new business verticals.

Ambient Data

Ambient data is data passively generated as a byproduct of living in a digitally augmented world. In this invited talk at the data science school Zipfian Academy, I explained algorithms and processes that can harness ambient data to create new experiences for the user.
