As the "Seasoned Spouse," Lizann has been encouraging and supporting military spouses since 2016 through her blog of that name, hundreds of published articles on military websites, and several books for the military community.
Her most recent book, "Open When: Letters of Encouragement for Military Spouses," was published in 2021 by Military Family Books. It includes short letters written directly to the reader to encourage them through the most common large and small challenges of military life.
Since then, Lightfoot has focused on encouraging spouses through the many challenges of military life, with an emphasis on deployment preparation and family support. She runs an online deployment support group called Handle Deployment Like a Boss, which has 8,000 active members.
Lightfoot has spoken at military spouse group events as a keynote speaker, workshop leader, or panelist. She has coordinated pre-deployment and post-deployment workshops for spouse groups up to 100 people, such as the Virginia National Guard Family Program workshop in 2024. She specializes in sharing stories of military life that are both relatable, entertaining, and inspiring.
The Airlift Tanker Association invited her to speak to the military spouses at their Annual Symposium in 2023, and said, "Your engaging delivery held the audience's attention throughout, creating an outstanding presentation. Your commendable ability to connect with our audience greatly contributed to the overall success of the Symposium."
