I am a retired kinesiologist and clinical counsellor in private practice. I hold an undergraduate degree in kinesiology, a masters degree in exercise and sport psychology and a masters degree in clinical psychology. I have over 30 years of professional experience that combines exercise science and psychology, health promotion, and mental health.
I am an educator, facilitator, and presenter in a wide variety of topics related to health promotion (exercise / nutritional psychology, stress/anxiety management, burnout, psychological safety @ work, exercise Rx for mental health, and much more). I have served as a sessional lecturer in kinesiology and exercise and sport psychology at both the college and university levels.
My graduate research focused on transformational leadership as a way to increase exercise adherence. Currently, I offer workshops and presentations on self-lead leadership to address psychological safety, burnout, and mental health in the workplace. I am known for my humour and ensuring that all strategies, tools, and skills offered to learners are based upon reality and the psychology of behaviour change.
I have worked with non profit, municipal, provincial, and federal governments; spending 12 years with the Canadian Armed Forces in health promotion education. As a writer, I have publications in book, chapter, and article formats focusing on exercise psychology, aging, and body neutrality in exercise settings.
I have recently developed two popular trainings related to exercise prescriptions for mental health and trauma-informed practice for educators and health practitioners.
