Bio

One of the only political psychiatrists in the world. Founder of Smart Politics and host of The Smart Politics Show.

Drawing on my unique combined experience in political science, political psychology, and psychotherapy, I teach people to communicate more productively and persuasively about politics with people who disagree with them--at home, in their communities, in their workplaces, and on the campaign trail.

My work has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, NPR, and on Fox and Friends. In addition, I publish regularly on Medium and am writing my first book, Smart Politics for Democrats: How to Stop Arguing, Stop Avoiding, and Start Making a Difference.

Smart Politics for the Holidays: Uphold Your Beliefs Without Ruining Dinner

This Thanksgiving, don't choose between your family and your beliefs.

As wonderful as it is to gather with family and friends to celebrate special occasions, it can also be stressful, especially if you and your loved ones have different political beliefs. It’s easy to get pulled into arguments you later regret or avoid discussions altogether because you don’t want to cause a scene.

Fortunately, there’s a better way.

Join Dr. Karin Tamerius, a nationally-renowned political psychiatrist, for an interactive workshop on how to advocate for what you believe without sacrificing your relationships or ruining your holiday dinner.

How to Stay Cool During Hot Political Conversations

Too triggered to talk with people you disagree with?

Let political psychiatrist Karin Tamerius show you how to manage your emotions so you can be more politically effective.

The key to smarter political conversations is remaining calm and focused so you can listen to others. But that can be difficult when people are saying things you believe are factually incorrect, immoral, or illogical.

During this special "EQ" Smart Politics workshop, we'll dive deeper into the conversational tips and hands-on tools that will help you stay cool when discussing hot topics so you can be more effective and persuasive.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll:

• Learn how to manage emotions before, during, and after difficult dialogues
• Practice getting triggered and calming down in real time
• Prepare a plan for what to do when you or the person you're talking with gets triggered

And much, much more!

Make 2022 the year you finally stop arguing, stop avoiding, and start making a difference!
