How to Build a Business Case for an Enterprise Data Model

Many organizations dream of an Enterprise Data Model that provides an integrated view of data as they are being produced and consumed across the entire organization. Enterprise Architects frequently use industry data models as a starting point. Usually this results in a ‘paper based’ enterprise data model. But that is only the beginning of a long journey. Once the whole organization gets involved we will need to handle politics, priorities, budget and personal ambitions. That’s when the rubber meets the road!
This workshop will highlight the winding road of creating the business case for an accepted enterprise data model throughout the organization:
• Roadmap of the enterprise data model
• Creation of the business case
• Overall SWOT analysis
• Impact on applications including data warehouse
• Implementing the enterprise data model
• Use of the canonical data model
• What’s next?

In this interactive session we handle the different aspects of building an Enterprise Data Model:

Quantifying the value and cost of Information Quality

In today’s data-driven world, the quality of information directly impacts business success. This presentation explores the tangible and intangible value of maintaining high information quality, using frameworks such as the 1-10-100 Rule and real-world case studies to illustrate the financial and operational implications of poor data quality. It provides practical guidance on building a business case for information quality initiatives, including methods to measure both the costs associated with low-quality data and the benefits of improving it. Attendees will learn how to quantify these factors and gain actionable insights for enhancing data-driven decision-making in their organizations.

Chicken or Egg? Which came first, the data model or data governance?

This presentation explores the critical relationship between data modeling and data governance, examining which should come first in establishing a successful data management strategy. Through case studies and practical examples, it discusses the challenges organizations face when aligning business processes with data structures. The presentation highlights the benefits of both data governance and data modeling, and outlines how they work in tandem to improve data quality, ensure compliance, and drive better decision-making. It also provides insights into implementing these strategies, addressing both technical and business perspectives to ensure a well-governed and structured data environment.
