Ian Chew is the sole Founder of Greenie Web – an award-winning Singapore ClimateTech startup that creates low-carbon computer code. A pioneer in the decarbonization of the digital world, he is the first in Asia to have carried out such work. For his contributions to the field of climate change, Ian received the Forbes 30 under 30 (Asia) honour for Social Impact, recognition as a Thought Leader by American luxury magazine Robb Report and the Global Digital Sustainability Leadership Award at Wiki Finance Expo Singapore.
His thought leadership in the area is recognized across industries and countries. Ian has been invited to speak at events by the United Nations, European Union and high profile media. Select speaking engagements include the United Nations Global Indigenous Youth Summit on Climate Change (global event) – where he represented the voices of digital natives to share about sustainable digitization, European Union – Malaysia Circular Economy 2.0 Conference, 5th Economist Brownbag Session at The Economist Asia-Pacific Headquarters.
His startup, Greenie Web, had been admitted to renown incubator programs including X-Hub Japan by the Tokyo Metropolitan government and the US-based Plug and Play (Energy Vertical).
Ian’s deep knowledge in the field has been picked up by the Asian Development Bank where he was appointed a subject matter expert for a project on digitalization for green and inclusive growth.
His insights on low-carbon computer coding and digital sustainability have been sought after by top government officials from Hungary to Palau.
Ian is the chairperson of the Global Alliance for Sustainable Digitization (GASD), where he launched the 29 by 29 Global Digital Sustainability Initiative. Through a series of in-person and online masterclasses, the program has benefited more than 3500 government officials, academics, corporates and students across all 5 continents. Into its 2nd year, the program has already secured UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) support.
Ian has been a guest lecturer for digital sustainability for post-graduate degree courses and professional courses at Singapore Management University. He has provided mentorship to students from the National University of Singapore and Essec Business School on digital sustainability.
