Florin Badita is a 34-year-old Romanian social entrepreneur and activist. In 2015, a fire at the Colectiv nightclub in Bucharest killed 64 people, including one of Badita's friends. The tragedy was caused by the club's non-compliance with health and safety regulations, which had been ignored by the authorities. Outraged by the government's corruption and inaction, Badita founded the "Corruption Kills" movement to demand accountability and justice for the victims of the fire.
Through the use of social media and grassroots organizing, Corruption Kills quickly gained traction and attracted over 137,000 followers. In 2017, the movement facilitated the largest protest in Romanian history, with over 500,000 people taking to the streets to demand change. As a result of the widespread public outrage and pressure from Corruption Kills, several high-ranking officials were arrested and charged with corruption.
In recognition of his efforts to combat corruption and improve public safety, Badita was named European Personality of the Year at the European Leadership Awards. He continues to lead Corruption Kills and advocates for transparency and accountability in government.
In addition to his work with Corruption Kills, Badita is also a successful social entrepreneur. He has started several ventures that aim to address social and environmental issues, including a sustainable clothing line and a renewable energy company. Through these businesses, he seeks to not only make a profit but also to create positive change in the world.
