Derek Haynes is a dedicated botanist and plant scientist who follows in the footsteps of notable Black researchers like George Washington Carver and Percy Julian. With a strong background in Botany and expertise in vaccine and therapeutics development using non-traditional plant-based technologies, Derek embodies his passion for plants in both theory and practice.

Believing that plants offer much more than mere home decor, Derek is on a mission to showcase their incredible potential. He recognizes that the ancient and modern can coexist harmoniously, providing sustainable solutions to urgent issues like food insecurity and holistic well-being. By merging education, wit, humor, and a profound love for plants and science, Derek strives to bring traditional knowledge into the mainstream.

As The Chocolate Botanist on Instagram, Derek has built a thriving community of nearly 50K like-minded individuals who appreciate his extensive knowledge and infectious enthusiasm.
