She is an author, speaker, coach, and consultant empowering others to achieve personal, organizational, and social transformation through outstanding leadership. Her book, The New Alpha: Join the Rising Movement of Influencers and Changemakers Who Are Redefining Leadership, offers a new paradigm for how modern leaders are redefining success, rewriting the rules, and revolutionizing leadership for today's world. Danielle's approach scraps the traditional thinking about leadership and encourages leaders to make an impact―in work, life, and in the world at large―and provides the strategies and tools to take action.

Berkeley Extension's Corporate and Professional Development Program. In addition, she has been featured in leading publications such as Fast Company, Forbes, Enterpreneur, Inc, and Women's Health.

Danielle earned her doctorate in political science and M.A. in education from Stanford University. Killing Alpha: Why the "Traditional Alpha" Model of Leadership is Broken and How to Fix it

Around the world and across industries, leadership as we know it is broken. Worldwide employee engagement rates are barely in the double digits, and in the U.S. alone, up to 75% of people believe that their boss is the most difficult and stressful part of their job. In this engaging and interactive presentation, Founder and CEO of the Center for Advancing Leadership and Human Potential, Danielle Harlan, PhD, will talk about why the current model of leadership isn't working, and will share evidence about a new and better model. Participants in this session will gain a better understanding of what the research and data tell us about leadership as well as specific, evidence-based strategies for improving their leadership skills.

The Future of Leadership: A Framework for Successful, Fulfilling, and Impactful Leadership

If you want to make an impact―in your work, your life, and the world at large―it’s time to scrap the traditional thinking about leadership. The game is changing. Power is shifting. And a brave new movement of leaders are redefining success, rewriting the rules, and revolutionizing leadership for the modern world. In this engaging and interactive presentation, Founder and CEO of the Center for Advancing Leadership and Human Potential, Danielle Harlan, PhD, will describe this new movement of leaders, including how they are different and distinctive from even great leaders of the past. Participants in this session will walk away with multiple evidence-based strategies for adapting their leadership style in order to increase their success, fulfillment, and impact—in their work and beyond.

What Got You Here Won't Get You There: Key "Strengths" That Weaken Your Leadership Effectiveness

Many of us have a clear idea in our heads about the kind of leader we want to be—or at least about the kind of leader we know that we definitely DON'T want to be. But did you know that some of the essential leadership qualities that we learn early on in our careers can actually hinder our leadership capacity later on? In this engaging and interactive presentation, Founder and CEO of the Center for Advancing Leadership and Human Potential, Danielle Harlan, PhD, will highlight the leadership competencies that we must UN-learn (such as sacrificing our health and wellness), in order to successfully advance in our careers. Participants in this session will leave with an understanding of the key "strengths" that weaken their leadership effectiveness and approaches for overcoming them when necessary.

From Vision to Values: How to Build an Extraordinary Organizational Culture

Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos says "If you get the culture right, most of the other stuff like delivering great customer service or building a long-term enduring brand will just happen naturally on its own." More than just making work "fun," successful organizational cultures help employees at all levels to engage with the work AND push toward the larger organizational mission and vision. In this highly interactive workshop, participants will learn the seven actions that leaders can take to support a thriving and productive organizational culture, including what they can do starting TODAY.

Discover Your Personal Leadership Identity: Leading with Confidence, Courage, and Authenticity

How we approach leadership is fundamentally rooted in who we are as human beings. While management skills and professional experience are helpful, the ability to recognize and harness the best aspects of our personality in order to inspire and empower others is essential to our success as leaders.

Drawing on her recent book, The New Alpha: Join the Rising Movement of Influencers and Changemakers Who are Redefining Leadership, Danielle Harlan will walk you through the process of defining your personal leadership identity. And, through the course of this interactive and reflective workshop, you will learn how to leverage your authentic style to enhance your influence and your impact as a leader.

The Emotionally Intelligent Leader: Indispensable Personal & Interpersonal Competencies for Leaders

Interested in learning how to be an effective leader in any industry? Want to know about the critical emotional intelligence competencies that will help you thrive in any career? In this engaging and experiential workshop, Founder and CEO of the Center for Advancing Leadership and Human Potential, Danielle Harlan, PhD, will talk about how leadership norms are changing and the non-technical personal and interpersonal competencies that you’ll need in order to be a successful leader in the modern world. You’ll come away from this event—not just with a better understanding of what emotional intelligence is and why it matters, but also with specific strategies for increasing your emotional self-control, empathy, and relationship management skills.
