Bio

Dan is a former communications, marketing, and government relations Executive with positions held in Fortune 500 Company, a successful Software Start-Up, and several Non-Profit Organizations. All were in the energy space, and each had an increasing focus on climate change over the past 30 years. A complete list of Dan’s past positions, as well as current affiliations, is available on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/dandelurey/.

During his career, Dan has been one of the primary authors of new climate and energy legislation and other policy at the federal and state level. He has testified before Congress multiple times and been a frequent advisor and collaborator with several White House Administrations. One provision of his passed into law in 2005 was cited 10 years later by the Supreme Court as evidence of Congressional support for clean energy. His expertise in the emerging areas of climate and energy technology has made him a frequent target for the media and among other appearances, Dan was the subject of an extended interview by Robert Siegel on NPR’s All Things Considered.

In the 2000’s Dan created from scratch a new National Conference focused on the new energy technologies that were being introduced to support renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate mitigation. This National Town Meeting became the premier event of its type on those topics and was held 15 times before Dan sold the event to another organization. In putting on the Town Meeting, Dan became known as an innovative speaker and facilitator. For example, during Day 1 of the event, Dan served as the primary speaker and then moderated successive panels of high-level executives and policy makers from his various positions in the audience. Dan would close each Town Meeting by giving the audience his predictions on technology and market developments and coming policies that would affect them.

Dan created the first Delegation of Climate and Energy Technology Companies to be approved by the United Nations to formally participate in the annual UN Climate Conferences (known as COPs). He is a frequent speaker during a COP and at one held in Bonn, Germany he was selected to be the Master of Ceremonies and facilitator for two days of events held in the Official U.S. Action Center.

Dan is an acknowledged expert on climate change and renewable energy and known for his ability to talk about climate change at various levels with various types of audiences. He is currently the on-air climate expert for NPR WAMC on a listener call-in show where callers ask whatever question they wish regarding renewable energy and climate change. The show has provided Dan with an up-to-date perspective into what different kinds of people in general want to hear about climate change and the many aspects of it.

In addition to his NPR work, Dan serves as a Senior Fellow on Climate and Energy at Vermont Law School, one of the leading law schools in the nation for energy and environmental law.
