Bio

Born and raised in Ohio, Dr. Chris McClung left home to study chemistry and medicine in Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Philadelphia. Once he decided to focus on urologic surgery, Dr. McClung trained with experts in Chicago and Washington for seven years.

During his residency at Loyola University in Chicago, Dr. McClung learned the basics of urologic surgery from Dr. Robert Flanigan, a renowned urologist and researcher. As a fellow, Dr. McClung focused on the advanced art of reconstructive urology at the University of Washington.

After his fellowship training, Dr. McClung returned to Ohio to practice his specialty as a faculty member at the Ohio State University for five years. After working with OhioHealth he recently opened his own practice focused on gender-affirming surgical care. He has become a world renown gender surgeon and people travel from all over the world for surgery because of his knowledge, caring bedside manner and excellent results.

Understanding the 6 elements of gender identity and creating an affirming culture

I'll discuss the elements of gender identity and provide the basic vocabulary for understanding the medical and social issues related to trans, gender nonconforming and LGBTQ+ employees, patients and clients. I'll use humor and medical terms while emphasizing the need for respect and understanding as a basis for interacting with all people, but especially the LGBTQ+ community.

Helping LGBTQ+ patients navigate the complex world of medical benefits

As a surgeon focused solely on transgender patients I understand how difficult and frustrating it can be to work with insurance companies and get necessary and life saving procedures covered. I'll offer an insiders look into the industry of medical insurance and give tips and advice on how to navigate it.

There weren't trans people back when..Dispelling this and other myths about trans populations

Across the generations people have trouble understanding why trans issues are taking center stage these days and why trans people are suddenly so visible in current culture. This is a basic training session introducing vocabulary, offering insights on the seemingly sudden rise of trans culture and how to show respect to all people with a medical/scientific slant.
