Bio

Brad founded S2A in 2014 with a simple mission: Develop 10 Percenters! A concept based on the fact that fewer than 10% of people say they understand their company’s strategy and its connection to their daily work. Through his workshops, seminars and strategy coaching, Brad chips away at the divide from both sides by helping the C-suite set a clear, concise and compelling strategic direction, while helping project managers make sense of the company's strategy in an actionable way.

Prior to founding S2A, Brad served as the chief financial officer and vice president of corporate strategy for a defense and aerospace contract manufacturing firm. There he managed the firm’s $100M+ project portfolio and successfully turned around the company’s performance on complex Department of Defense projects.

Brad is a graduate of the US Navy’s Nuclear Power Program, and holds a Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering technology. Over the course of his highly decorated military career, he served as executive officer, department head, program manager for nuclear electrical systems, and technical advisor for carrier electrical power systems.

Brad is a frequent keynote speaker and recognized thought leader on strategy design and execution. In 2016, he was recognized by the Cincinnati Business Courier as one of the city’s Forty Under 40. He’s an avid trail runner, red wine enthusiast and aspiring guitarist who calls Cincinnati, Ohio home.

Project Management is Dead! Long Live Project Management!

”The role of the project manager is rapidly changing to that of a business leader. That’s good news, if you’re ready.”
~Mark Langely, CEO, PMI

As the saying goes, admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery. Technical skills and credentials, though helpful, account for less than 20% of all project success. Those who have a knack for getting things done through the collective efforts of others have developed 3 desperate skills that have been shown to deliver results time and again. The good news is they can be developed by anyone who so desires. The bad news is most people don’t know what they are or how to develop them. Until now.

In this talk, Brad will discuss the 3 skills that every project managers needs to be successful in a complex and uncertain world and what you can do to develop them further.

When Change Goes Right

Accelerate and realize the full potential of your ideas, strategies, and solutions.

-Why do so many strategies stumble at the point of execution?
-When change keeps coming, how do you keep everyone aligned, engaged and moving forward?
-How do you quickly build change capability without putting the business at risk?

You have great ideas and strategies for the future, but that’s no guarantee those solutions will deliver on their promise.

During this 90-minute interactive session, strategy and innovation expert Brad Brezinski will challenge the audience to roll up their sleeves and tackle a realistic change project. More than 75% of their time is spent on the team-based project simulation, leading the beginning stages of a year-long strategic change initiative, enabling participants to engage with the behaviors, tools and skill sets that make change happen.

The Silent Killer of Strategic Effectiveness

Many managers believe that logically advantageous ideas will sell themselves; that the obvious benefits of a new idea will be widely realized by the rest of the organization, and that the idea will spread rapidly with great enthusiasm! Unfortunately, experience and statistics tell us this is rarely the case, and the underlying cause is frequently misdiagnosed.

There exists a hidden network of communications in every organization through which new ideas diffuse. And the larger the organization, the larger and more complex this network becomes. Yet, while the overwhelming majority of communications occur there, little (if any) consideration is given to it, especially in the early design stages of a new initiative. It’s the shadow network, and it could hold the key to understanding why many strategic initiatives fail and what management teams can do about it.

Strategy. You Know What I Mean.

Few words in the lexicon of business are as befuddling as strategy. Underneath all its ornate clothing and fancy publications, strategy is little more than conjecture about an unknowable future.

However, the fact that the future is unknowable does not absolve organizational leaders from their responsibility to consider it carefully, plan a response and take meaningful action. As such, strategy is a concept that is discussed up, down, and across an organization. As management practitioners, we are in the midst of a strategic and business intelligence turn. To navigate the turn successfully, managers at all levels must understand the many different perspectives of strategy that exists in the organization and how those perspectives influence decision making at all levels.

Inside the Mind of a Strategic Thinker

Henry Mintzberg has referred to strategy as “a pattern in a stream of decisions.”

For the manager, there are only streams of decisions – constant and unrelenting, with imperfect information. Everything else is context. Collectively over time, these decisions shape the behavioral norms of the company and establish its strategic nature. Yet, too few managers spend any time thinking about their approach to decision making, let alone how to improve their approach over time. This is particularly true where strategic decisions are concerned, which leaves us to ask (and answer): What makes and decision strategic? And, how should our approach to decision making change when faced with a strategic decision?

  • Brad Brezinski is not a typical management consultant, pushing the latest fad as the universal solution for whatever happens to ail a specific company. Rather, Brad is an original thinker who synthesizes proven management theory, original research, and his own broad experience, into solutions uniquely tailored for his specific audience. And whether he is addressing strategy, innovation, or project leadership, all of which are strengths for Brad, he illustrates his reasoning with personal stories from a broad career in government and industry, and a healthy dose of humor, resulting in presentations that are captivating, informative and actionable.

  • “Of all the things I like about Brad Brezinski—and that’s a long list—two stand out to me especially. The first is that he is able to know, understand, and respect the past, yet at the same time not be constrained by it. The second is his unquenchable enthusiasm. Either of those two characteristics would be enough to set him apart, but the two together make for a very special blend.” Dr. Bud Baker Professor of Management Robert J.
