Data Science as a Social Science: Security and Privacy across Cultural Borders

As technology yields unprecedented across borders, privacy and security policies designed for a few markets are ultimately applied globally, in many different cultural contexts. But security is not culture-neutral. Decode geo-cultural dimensions of trust and communication, and how they frame perception of privacy and security on multicultural teams and in the digital arena, enabling effective global policy creation, application, and dissemination. Gain unique insight into how data science is rooted in social science, and how mathematical computation, data interpretation, and numerical processing are processed through a cultural lens. Explore case studies of digital sovereignty, tech diplomacy, data localization and colonialism, and social credit systems. Because as globalization makes our borders invisible, digital boundaries reinstate them.

Culture Conscious Leadership to Tackle Bias

Attack bias via culture, not color. Examine all kinds of bias-- from availability bias to zero-risk bias --as they are rooted in our mental programming. Biases start out with good intentions. They are a kind of shorthand to navigate the world, and frame it by our cultural perspective. In practice, it can derail into racial, gender, and other harmful biases. We will explore the science of how inclusion sets the stage for better business outcomes, and learn how cultural differences present challenges but provide the opportunity for innovation and global excellence.

Break Out of Your Cultural Comfort Zone to Lead and Communicate Globally

Break out of your cultural comfort zone. Technology is connecting us more than ever, but we still face linguistic and cultural barriers. In a globalized world, teamwork, collaboration, and business growth mean communicating across real and perceived borders. In this dynamic presentation, learn how cultural differences present challenges but provide the opportunity for innovation and global excellence. Explore communication styles across world regions, decode cultural perceptions of time, see your own culture through a foreign “lens,” and understand cultural expectations for client meetings and employee feedback. Multidisciplinary content draws on business case studies, research in applicable fields of psychology and sociology, culture related events in the news, and the latest academic theories on intercultural dynamics. You’ll takeaway how to effectively penetrate foreign markets and build relationships across cultures without knowing the local language.

KEYNOTE: Leading in a Global Village

Technology is connecting us more than ever, but we still face linguistic and cultural barriers. Teamwork and business growth mean communicating across different frameworks, from corporate culture to national cultures. Every decision you make could go global. Because our systems and marketing are designed for our home country, or for a few key markets, but in a digital world, reach globally. In this dynamic presentation, learn how differences in cultural thinking and communication present challenges in everyday situations—including on social media—whether we perceive it or not. Leverage this diversity for innovation and global excellence. The new global village is built on a digital foundation. What does this mean for each of us as global citizens?

Technology Across Cultural Borders

In a globalized world, cultural differences present challenges but provide the opportunity for innovation and global excellence. Starting from C-level topics about preserving the corporate message and the company’s cultural assets across borders, explore the cultural side of digital communication and the objectives in localizing content, information, and engagement strategies for digital and mobile world forums. As technology grants unprecedented access to new markets, review emerging developments in language translation technology and the cultural nuances in artificial intelligence design and application. We’ll examine different regional communication styles and perceptions of time, discover why emojis aren’t universal, and explore cultural preferences and norms for privacy and information governance on the new global stage.

Social Selling and Influencer Marketing Across Cultures

Social media yields unprecedented global connection between brands and consumers, but cultural relevance can present a barrier to engagement. Enter a new era of globalization and e-commerce, where mobile access puts customers in the driver’s seat, expecting to be met in their cultural context. We’ll redefine customer engagement as a social science framed by culture, surveying different regional practices for digital experiences and how culture plays a role in technology and marketing (cultech, martech, etc.)

Explore how social selling and influencer marketing are powerful vehicles for brand content, AI returns us to one-on-one customer relationships, and localization is critical for user experiences from voice search to navigation. Review case studies of key opinion leaders in Asia, mobile payment systems spreading through Africa, and lite-apps designed for emerging mobile

Crossing Cultural Borders with Technology: Cultech Strategies

Digital media yields unprecedented global connection between brands and consumers, but cultural relevance can present a barrier to engagement. Enter a new era of globalization, where customers expect to be met in their cultural context. We’ll redefine customer engagement as a social science framed by culture, surveying different regional practices for digital experiences, and how practices like influencer marketing return us to cultural values of trust and relationships. Decode cross-cultural perceptions of sound, color, and animation in user interfaces, and discover why even emoji aren’t universal. In cultural competency awaits the opportunity for growth, innovation and global excellence.

  • Annalisa was a guest speaker at IATA headquarter in Madrid, Spain. With more than 65 nationalities working at IATA in Spain only, we were delighted to hear her speech on Crossing Cultural Borders in a digital world. She led us on a multi-cultural "voyage" through global communication styles, conceptions of time, data privacy and even why emoji aren’t a universal language. Her presentation was to the point, dynamic and kept the audience entertained. We are looking forward to welcome her back to further expand our cultural intelligence.

  • Annalisa spoke at the National Association of Government Communicators annual Communications School in June. Her session was one of the highest attended and rated at our meeting. A powerful, timely presentation.

  • Annalisa performed a series of lectures on culture in Cuba for cruise passengers visiting Cuba, as an enrichment lecturer (this is different from a destination/port lecturer who speaks about sightseeing options). Her Powerpoints are very professional, the information on Cuba very interesting and engaging, and the audience loved her, she had huge turnouts for her second and third lectures which are usually less attended.

  • Thanks for an excellent workshop at our conference. We received excellent feedback on your presentation, and the topic of cross-cultural communication was perfect for our members. We hope you will return next year.
