Building Your Board from the Bottom Up

As a 501c3 organization, you are only legally required to supply a minimum of 3 directors for your corporation who are over 18 years of age and who approve an annual budget for the organization. Most organizations grow and thrive by requiring more from these individuals and how they support your mission can vary drastically from company to company. In this workshop, we will discuss how to transition your board into a fundraising role by looking at the different types of boards and board members, how to identify individuals who can fit these types, the best ways to recruit them, and successful methods of board management, engagement, and development once they join.

Board Member Archetypes: what they are, how to work with them

A Board Member has a complicated relationship with an organization because at the same time they are donors, volunteers, worker bees, and the governing body. It’s an odd dichotomy of doing work for you while you ultimately work for them. You expect your Board to invest time and money into your vision so finding ways to work with, mold, and cultivate each of them individually is a central part of a non-profit leader’s job. At their core, they are a group of people who care about and support your organization in myriad ways. This workshop will explore archetypes of Board memberships, the best ways to engage and recruit them, and successful methods of board engagement and development being utilized in nonprofit organizations from various sectors. This workshop is suitable for executive and managing directors, development directors, and their staff members.

A Better Way to Get Your Board to Fundraise

o The board knows you need fundraising help, committed to a give/get, and yet they struggle to make an ask? It is time to reframe what you are asking them to do. This workshop will redefine your board’s role in the fundraising process, lessen the intimidation factor, and provide tips and tools to engage them in essential fundraising needs for your organization without ever asking for a dime. In turn, you will enlist their support in the cultivation process and be poised develop an even more substantial pipeline of donors than before. This workshop requires two members from each organization, ideally one from the board, and is suitable for executive and managing directors, board members, and development directors.

DIY Strategic Plans

Your strategic plan is a blueprint. A Road Map. A Recipe. An instruction manual you write, often while flying the plane. This session will explore how to engage in a DIY successful strategic planning process, when to bring in help, and how to actually achieve your strategic goals, not just occasionally, but regularly.

Fundraising 101

Doing good requires dollars. In this session, we will provide an introduction to fundraising to demystify the process of grantwriting and provide tips/tools that can help your organization promote a culture of philanthropy in order to better serve and fund your mission. This workshop is designed for nonprofit employees who do not fundraise but recognize the need for increased revenue streams and are interested in helping grow them. Key Learning objectives include Understand why fundraising is called “Development” and what “Culture of Philanthropy” means; Identify key types of philanthropic contributions; Learn the components of Development program and what social workers can do to help with the process

You Won’t Get Corporate Dollars The Way You Think You Will

Thousands of creative and skilled individuals are eager to help serve your mission. Their employers are seeking compelling, interactive volunteer programs to make it happen. Learn how a few small arts education organizations fulfill a central need for their organization by partnering with large corporations to serve their equally central needs and raise significant funds at the same time. This workshop is intended for any non-profit that could be well-served by new streams of income and additional manpower.

Finding the Perfect Nonprofit for CSR and Employee Engagement

Thousands of your colleagues are eager to make a difference but which volunteer programs will provide the perfect combination of high employee engagement and low administrative lift for your company? In this session, CSR Professionals can gain an understanding of how charitable partners can better serve their needs, and how to find and create meaningful volunteer engagement events.
Speakers experienced in nonprofit business leadership and professional development will outline how they turned a small volunteer experience into a robust initiative that combines team-building and meaningful volunteer engagement as a replacement for the dreaded “Zoom Happy Hour” for some of the largest companies in the world.

But We’ve Always Done it This Way

Many organizations fall into the rut of ‘we have always done it this way’ without regularly assessing where new methods may create efficiencies, improved functions, and happier employees. In this humorous and interactive session, participants will share their most outdated practices, help identify others, and explore ways to spur change through communication with leadership, creative thought processes, and strategic planning.
