Bio

A strong advocate for equity in the sciences and education, I'm a student at the University of Rochester majoring in Neuroscience and Health, Behavior, and Society. With my interdisciplinary interests, I work to level the healthcare (i.e. mental and public) sector for all groups through diversity efforts, global outreach, and community engagement.

I involve myself in group-building and development by leading my 501(c)(3), Medicine Encompassed, nationally recognized for increasing medical literacy in students. My work is heavily centered around mental health as well — particularly as a Student Advisor and Subcommittee Leader for Neolth’s international ambassador program, former youth intern at Hopelab (where I conducted a socio-ecological, community-level mental health research study), Mental Health & Wellbeing Working Group Leader at YOUNGA, a co-author on a scientific publication about a SSRI-based research study at Dartmouth College, and participated in IDONTMIND's "Our Future in Mind" program.

In depth, my organization — Medicine Encompassed — is an interdisciplinary space that combines STEAM and health literacy to push out experiential learning platforms. With the launch of 30+ medical literacy initiatives and a global reach of 40+ countries, we recognize the significance of amplifying young folks’ voices in a “for students, by students” approach. Our variety of STEAM-based learning techniques provided by our organization is born from the fact that there is no “one-size-fits-all” system for education and skill retention. In carefully crafting these initiatives, Medicine Encompassed’s projects range from an international mentorship initiative (with mentors from prestigious institutions), a STEAM-based curriculum for future implementation in schools (after going through translation processes), a mental health project to distribute student toolkits, a global seminar initiative (impacting 10,000+ students globally), 18+ medical branch initiatives (collectively producing 1,000+ resources), and more. Breaking this glass ceiling, I've revolutionized societal fields through our “one-stop-shop” structure.

Collectively, my leadership initiatives and commitment to social impact resulted in my titles as Mental Health America’s 2023 mPower Award Winner, 2021 T-Mobile Changemaker Challenge Grand Prize Winner in Education, TD Bank & National Liberty Museum Young Hero, a Youth Program Honoree at the New Jersey Governor's Volunteerism Awards, Taco Bell Ambition Accelerator Quarterfinalist, and others. I continue to venture towards amplifying Generation Z voices, recognizing young folks’ openness as a key in enacting the appropriate people-centered changes.

With other interests in pedagogy, outreach, marketing, design, and creative writing, I use these qualities to leverage the power of my initiatives.

Meeting the Intersection: Cultural Competence and Health Disparities

Identifying the significance of both medical and cultural literacy in practice, this presentation focused on the principles of cultural competence in the healthcare sector. The role of this skillset in minority populations and why this application is necessary in the demographics of global and public health were discussed. Other points included how failing to acknowledge one's culture can impact one's mental well-being, how groups may question the validity of one's identity, and cases of bias throughout marginalized communities in medicine.

Critical points included "subjective treatment" by considering patients' linguistic abilities, socioeconomic status, familiarity with the modern healthcare system, representation of ethnic groups in clinical studies, as well as gender and sex differences. These concepts were discussed in the context of business, socially, and clinically.

Day of Action: Professional Development

At Girl Up Foundation's Global Leadership Summit in 2022, I presented at the Day of Action: Professional Development session alongside 3 other youth speakers, amassing participants from 4 continents. Through this session, we discussed goal-setting, intention-setting, "finding your purpose," the power of diction in creating goals, levels of impact when launching new projects, and assessing goals through benchmarks, through different concepts and interactive activities.

Mental Health America: mPower Award Speech

Conditional on accepting my mPower Award at the 2023 #NextGenPrevention conference, I delivered a speech about the importance of acknowledging humanistic qualities in all patients receiving mental healthcare — including their backgrounds, linguistics, and values — and recognizing the nuances between the patient body.

A bulk of this presentation was also centered on why youth, the demographic at the forefront of mental health advocacy, should continue to have their voices and efforts amplified. Referencing my organization, Medicine Encompassed, as a prime example of how youth passion and non-complacency can translate over to tangible impact — my remarks were spoken with empowerment and hope for the next generation of health advocacy.

Closing Session of Youth Peer Support Action Summit: Youth Reflections

As a member of the Steering Committee of the national Youth Peer Support Action Summit (a partnership between Mental Health America and the Copeland Center), I articulated my experiences as a youth advocate — namely when explaining how Generation Z is one of the most receptive and impact-driven generations to date.

In the mental health scene, youth advocacy is of utmost importance as we are aware of how DEI benefits health and wellness greatly; thus, we are determined to continue implementing these values into our work to allow our diverse population to thrive.
