Bio

Oak Arias is a nationally recognized trauma recovery and crisis-mitigation expert, author, speaker, athlete, and the founder and CEO of Navigating Resilience—a trauma recovery practice grounded in radical empathy, evidence-based methodology, and the conviction that healing is both possible and powerful. Oak brings a rare integration of lived experience, analytical precision, and embodied resilience to their work, creating transformative environments where individuals and communities can reclaim safety, agency, and connection.

They hold a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems and Data Analytics from Colorado State University Global. A Nationally Registered EMT licensed in multiple states, Oak is trained extensively in crisis mitigation and intervention, de-escalation, suicide prevention, peer support, and Psychological First Aid. They are also a Certified Trauma Care Practitioner (CTCP) through the Global Trauma Institute, complemented by additional trauma-care certifications across disciplines. This interdisciplinary foundation allows Oak to merge rigorous assessment with compassionate presence—an approach that has become a defining hallmark of their work.

Oak is the author of Healing Forward: The Power and Promise of Trauma Recovery Coaching and Restoring Signal: Healing the Nervous System After Medical Trauma. Their writing offers accessible, practical guidance for navigating the complexities of recovery and resilience. They have also served as an invited graduate practicum lecturer, contributing thought leadership on affirming LGBTQIA+ individuals in faith-based and clinical settings.

A ruptured cerebral aneurysm survivor and six-time National and International Olympic Weightlifting gold medalist, Oak embodies the principles of endurance, renewal, and adaptive strength that they teach. Their journey informs a speaking philosophy centered on empowerment, evidence-based practice, and the transformative potential of personal narrative integrated with professional expertise.

Beyond their work, Oak finds grounding in movement, nature, and travel—pursuits that reflect their belief in curiosity as a pathway to restoration. Whether leading from the front of a classroom, a keynote stage, or a crisis-response environment, Oak Arias advances a simple but profound mission: to make resilience a lived experience, a learned skill, and a collective cultural movement.

Life at the Intersections: LGBTQIA+ Community & Trauma

Trauma doesn’t exist in isolation, it’s not just a private experience sealed within our bodies. Instead, it’s shaped by our environments, our communities, and the systemic structures we navigate daily. For LGBTQIA+ individuals, the impact of trauma often intersects with experiences of discrimination, rejection, invisibility, and violence. These layers mean that healing cannot be separated from the broader social realities we live in.

Intersectionality, a term rooted in Black feminist thought, recognizes that our identities overlap and create unique experiences of marginalization or privilege. For LGBTQIA+ folks, this may mean navigating trauma while also contending with racism, ableism, classism, or other structural inequities. When we approach healing through this lens, we honor the full spectrum of who we are instead of trying to compartmentalize our identities. Healing at the intersections means centering community as much as the individual.

Celebrating God's Love for ALL: The LGBTQIA+ Community in Faith Spaces

God’s Love Without Conditions
At the heart of most faith traditions is the message of unconditional love, compassion, and belonging. Yet many LGBTQIA+ individuals have been told—implicitly or explicitly—that their identities place them outside of God’s love. This is a painful contradiction. When we return to the essence of sacred texts and teachings, however, we find a deeper truth: God’s love does not exclude. It embraces all of creation, exactly as we are.

Building Affirming Communities
Creating truly inclusive faith spaces requires more than tolerance; it requires affirmation and celebration. This may look like:
- Inclusive language in worship and liturgy.
- Leadership roles open to LGBTQIA+ individuals.
- Rituals and blessings that honor queer love, families, and transitions.
- Public witness that advocates for justice and equality.
Such practices not only affirm LGBTQIA+ members but enrich the entire community by embodying the radical welcome of God’s love.

Allyship & LGBTQIA+ Youth in Faith and Spiritual Spaces

Understanding the Vulnerability of LGBTQIA+ Youth
LGBTQIA+ youth face disproportionately high rates of bullying, family rejection, homelessness, depression, and suicide attempts. When these struggles are compounded by faith-based condemnation, the harm can cut even deeper. In contrast, when youth experience acceptance from faith leaders and communities, their mental health, resilience, and sense of belonging dramatically increase. Allyship, therefore, is not optional; it is life-giving.

A Vision for the Future
Imagine faith spaces where LGBTQIA+ youth feel no need to hide, apologize, or fear. Spaces where their voices shape the community, their love is blessed, and their faith is deepened by their authenticity. Allyship is the bridge toward this future. By standing with LGBTQIA+ youth, faith communities not only save lives—they also live out the radical, inclusive love at the heart of spirituality.
