Bio

Stephen Moffe was raised in upstate New York and is an Author. He recently published a book called: Time To Go, My Journey through Childhood Trauma, Substance Abuse, Mental Illness, and a Career in the Department Of Corrections.

As a child Steve suffered through the trauma of emotional and physical abuse in addition to childhood head trauma. As an adolescent he escaped his reality through drugs and alcohol that eventually forced him into two rehabs during his lifetime. At the age of thirty-five he was diagnosed with type II Bipolar disorder, PTSD, and adult attention deficit disorder (AADD).

After numerous medications and several hospitalizations to treat his mental illness, he also endured electro-convulsive therapy (a series of shock treatments); but it wasn't over yet. He continued abusing alcohol and drugs including experimenting with heroin that pushed him into a rehab for the second time. However, he continued to use, and it eventually led him to the precipice of nearly committing suicide.

Finally, as he continues his journey, he found his way to a happier, more peaceful, and manageable life, but he didn't do it alone. He worked as a residential counselor, earned a degree in sociology and media studies, then working in child protective services. After retiring he moved west. He and his partner Anne reside in Colorado while raising Anne's two grandchildren.

Steve is passionate about working with educators to develop a curriculum to teach adolescent aged young people the ability to think critically. Another goal for Steve is to join others in raising public awareness to seek effective treatments for trauma, mental illness, addiction, and child abuse.
