Democratic Equations

Does modern mathematics have anything to offer to elections? Yes. This talk presents three fields of mathematical research that can influence the security of our elections: group theory (end-to-end verification), statistics (ballot auditing) and predictive analytics (election oversight).

Lousy Reasons Not to Vote

The reasons people give for not voting are often based on a common misunderstanding about how elections affect government action. This talk uses these reasons as a launching pad for a discussion of voting blocs, identity politics, and how to become power in your democracy.
