Bio

Shruti Chand, a 15-year-old high school student at Ullens School in Nepal’s Patan, has been relentlessly trying to promote acceptance for LGBTQ rights and racial harmony.

She is the organizer of the renowned webinar, Learning and Unlearning. In a bid to provide youth with a platform to voice their views on issues such as racism, toxic masculinity and gender equality, Shruti Chand held a Zoom webinar on June 20 at 3pm. Highly accomplished public figures and celebrities, including motivational speaker and author, Priya Kumar, musician Naaz Sultana and psychologist Bidita Das presented their views during the webinar on Saturday.

Chand and her colleagues hold themselves accountable for every issue the world is facing and they try to do something within their capacities to bring about acceptance and equality.

Chand’s motto is to promote tolerance through creativity.

She says, “People highly elaborate on equality, however, with vast number of diverse views, perspectives and differences, we should focus on accepting everyone the way they are.”

She says, “They capability of the youth to bring change lies beyond a protest or a petition.”

Chand wants to encourage people to help others selflessly.

Intrigued by the fields of law, human rights and international relations, Chand believes in the power of knowledge and knows how to draw a line between confidence and overconfidence.

Chand says, “I also enjoy graphic designing, modelling, writing, dancing, swimming and painting.”

Chand has participated in different story-telling competitions, dance competitions, spelling Bee. She also won a few model united nations and conducted several seminars.
