Sara Adams Centeno is an innovative educator, author, speaker, and thought leader who loves to move people with proven strategies for creating success. With 15 years of teaching experience in classrooms from kindergarten to college, she’s an expert in the field, and currently teaches Principles of Teaching and Learning for Andrews University’s Post Professional Doctoral Program. She also teaches Student Success courses at Ivy Tech Community College and Notre Dame University. Seeing her student’s needs were not being met by current course content, Sara began her mission to improve the effectiveness of pedagogy by developing culturally responsive and engaging curricula that meets the needs of today’s students. Her recent textbook, Success The Ultimate Guide to College, Career, and Personal Excellence, promotes research based strategies in metacognitive skills, growth mindset, goal setting, time management, effective communication, wellness, stress management, cultural awareness, and emotional intelligence. Colleges and dual credit high schools are adopting The Ultimate Guide to enhance retention and promote positive, sustainable changes in the lives of students. The corporate world has recently found out about her success hacking skills and she’s speaking and inspiring employees of fortune 500 companies as well.
Leadership
Sara is currently focused on empowering others with knowledge and inspiration to reach their greatest human potential. She is the co-founder of ProfTalk.org, where she and colleague, Chris Finnin, Clinical Professor at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business in Philadelphia, innovate higher education with practical, relevant classroom solutions to inspire faculty to create exemplary learning environments. They have presented at Colleges and Universities across the US.
Research
Sara is currently researching Mindfulness in the Professoriate by working with colleagues from across the US to minimize the negative effects of stress and burnout in the Professoriate. She is also working on a collaboration with Stanford University’s PERTS lab on growth mindset for college students.
