Bio

Sam Jenkins (she/her) is a speaker, DEI advocate, and cultural arts programmer with a proven track record of creating innovative, inclusive programs that foster connection and celebrate diversity. Her leadership on the Southfield Celebrates Black History Month programming earned the 2025 mParks Innovative Programming Award, recognizing her ability to design impactful events that engage and educate communities.

Sam seamlessly combines real-world experience with a passion for fostering inclusive spaces. As a biracial professional, she understands firsthand the importance of representation, belonging, and building bridges across differences.

Her sessions are customized to address each audience's unique needs, blending engaging storytelling, humor, and practical strategies that inspire actionable change.

Before stepping onto the stage, Sam was a driving force behind innovative community programs and cultural events, designing strategies to elevate engagement and connection.

Now, she shares those insights with organizations across the country to help leaders, teams, and communities thrive.

When not speaking or designing programs, Sam enjoys life with her wife, Jenny, and her two amazing kids, Stella and Isabella, and her pets June (dog) and Olivia (Cat). Grounded in a love for connection, family, and inclusion, Sam's work centers on creating opportunities for everyone to feel seen, valued, and empowered.

  • Sam is a committed DEI professional who brings equity and inclusion into all that she does professionally and personally. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Sam through our engagement in mParks activities and programming and she is a rising star on providing the most culturally relevant and needed programming for her community. She serves as a representative for our regional group, North West, as part of the mParks DEI Committee that I chair and has taken every opportunity to be actively engage and encourage participation. I always value her perspective and feedback on new ways to encourage greater inclusion and justice in the parks and recreation industry across the state!

  • I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Sam. During our time as colleagues, Sam consistently demonstrated an exceptional work ethic, an infectious “can-do” attitude, and a remarkable ability to bring positivity to any situation. Sam is the kind of person who naturally uplifts those around her. Whether tackling challenging projects or supporting teammates, she approaches every task with enthusiasm and a smile that genuinely brightens the workplace. Her optimistic outlook, combined with her dedication and determination, makes her an invaluable team member. One of Sam’s most admirable qualities is her ability to adapt and find solutions in the face of obstacles. She never backs down from a challenge and is quick to identify opportunities for growth and improvement. Beyond her professional abilities, Sam is a joy to work with on a personal level. She fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment, ensuring that everyone feels valued and supported. I have no doubt that Sam will bring the same energy, dedication, and positivity to any role she undertakes. She would be a tremendous asset to any organization.
