Rolph Balgobin is The Quicksilver Group’s executive chairman, which has subsidiaries operating in various sectors, including manufacturing, energy, education, professional services and property, doing business all over the world. He is also an entrepreneur, researcher and educator.
Dr Balgobin is the founder and current chairman of The Oxbridge International School (OXIS), which is on a mission to provide the best teaching technology and experiences to nurture its students’ intellectual and character development. Its aim is to develop modern minds and global thinkers, offering all the tools needed for success in today’s fast-moving world.
Dr Balgobin was an NGC Distinguished Fellow in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of the West Indies. He was one of the youngest business school deans in the world as head of the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business at the University of the West Indies. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
Dr Balgobin was formerly a director of the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago, the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago and Youth Business Trinidad and Tobago, and chairman of the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Company.
Married for 25 years and with three children, Dr Balgobin is a Catholic lay minister and has a black belt in Shotokan karate. He holds advanced degrees from the University of the West Indies, postgraduate degrees from the University of Cambridge and Manchester University, and a postgraduate diploma from the ACCA in corporate governance. Dr Balgobin serves on the Catholic Church’s Finance Council (Archdiocese of Port of Spain) and is chair of the church’s Real Estate Committee.
