Originally from Toronto, Canada, where he was born in 1966, he moved to the United States in 1975 as his father embarked on an engineering career in Seattle, Washington. This relocation sparked his interest in the construction and engineering industries, which have become the cornerstones of his professional life. His commitment to excellence began in his youth, where he also developed a strong affinity for hockey—a sport that taught him the value of teamwork and discipline. These qualities have served him well professionally. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Finance and Humanities from Seattle University, rounding out his financial acumen and cultural literacy skills.
His career started in a seemingly unrelated field, as an auditor for a pension fund, where he honed his analytical skills and met his future wife. His passion for construction and engineering later guided him to a pivotal role as a project engineer at Sverdrup Engineering, where he managed significant infrastructure projects, including Concourse D's expansion at SeaTac Airport.
His journey with JH Kelly began with his role as a Field Engineer, where he demonstrated his capability to manage and execute complex projects. His career progression was rapid, moving from Business Development Manager to Director of Marketing and Business Development and finally to Vice President. He has been instrumental in shaping the company's strategic direction in these roles, particularly in sales and marketing efforts.
In 2018, he was entrusted with a significant responsibility following the acquisition of Portland Mechanical Contractors by JH Kelly. He successfully integrated the new company, aligning it with JH Kelly's operational standards and cultural values. His leadership has also been pivotal in several other acquisitions that have broadened the company's scope and enhanced its market capabilities.
Outside of Rob Harris’s professional life, he is an enthusiastic traveler, enjoying exploring new countries with his wife of 33 years. He is a dedicated family man, deeply involved in the lives of his three children and two grandchildren. Additionally, he continues to play hockey in an over-35 league, maintaining his lifelong commitment to sports and physical health.
