Build Intercultural Competence and Communicate Successfully Across Cultures

Communicating and collaborating with others at home and abroad requires intercultural competence. Learn about multiple layers of culture, such as national, regional, generational, professional, or corporate culture as well as personality, and how we subconsciously acquire culture. Recognizing your own culture and that of others, understanding the differences, and stretching your comfort zone allows you to communicate successfully across cultures. This is beneficial for working with an international clientele or working on diverse teams. Intercultural competence is relevant for many areas of business, such as prospecting, negotiating, scheduling, meetings, agreeing and disagreeing, decision making, problem solving, giving and receiving feedback, conflict management, leading and motivating employees, or building trust and relationships. When attending my presentation, you will take the first step to communicating successfully across cultures.

How to prepare for relocation as an expat and how to alleviate culture shock

Relocating to a foreign country can be daunting. In addition to getting a visa, the logistical part at home (packing boxes, shipping your furniture overseas, selling your car, etc.) and abroad upon arrival (new drivers license, new house, new car, utilities, necessities of life, etc.), there is an even bigger intangible part to relocations that pose a challenge to expats and is often the source of culture shock. This part includes the dos and don'ts in your new country, values, norms, traditions, and cultural differences in behavior and communication. In this presentation, you will learn how you can prepare yourself before you embark on this adventure, how you can get adjusted after arrival, and what you can do to alleviate culture shock. This presentation will also include the dangers of repatriation culture shock, a variety of scenarios to learn from, and hands-on tips on how to master your expatriation and your repatriation.

How to become an effective presenter and feel more at ease with public speaking

What is a good presentation? How do you capture your audience's attention? How can you improve and feel more at ease with your public speaking? This presentation will answer all of these questions and more, and provide an introduction to successful public speaking. You will get general insights on how to prepare, how to anticipate reactions, and how to leave a positive and memorable impression. This presentation will also provide you with hands-on tips and a guideline on how to succeed. The presentation can focus on public speaking in the US or compare different cultural preferences across the globe in order to prepare you for giving presentations abroad or to colleagues on an international team. Learn about people's expectations and how to fulfill them for positive feedback and above-average results.

The importance of executive presence

Executive presence is a combination of how you act (gravitas), how you look (appearance), and how you communicate and network (communication). Improving your executive presence will make people believe you, trust you, and follow you. This presentation will show you how to become self-aware, work on important traits, and adopt new habits that will allow you to command the room, attract attention, and showcase your abilities. Without executive presence, you may find it more difficult to achieve these goals or even miss out on opportunities. Learn what executive presence is, how it works, and how you can build it step by step. Also learn about cultural differences in executive presence and how to meet a variety of expectations. Build executive presence to exceed your goals and achieve better results.

Global Mobility: Leadership across cultures

Being an excellent leader in one culture or environment does not necessarily make you an equally accomplished leader in another country or industry. In the world of global mobility, high-performing leaders are often offered an even more senior position abroad. These expat assignments can be a real springboard for one's career and also offer a unique opportunity for personal growth. However, without the right preparation, knowledge, and attitude, the opportunity can quickly turn into a nightmare. There are many examples of failed expatriation and many lessons to be learned for leadership across cultures. This presentation will explore different leadership styles and expectations of a leader across cultures, cultural differences, the power of perceptions, and valuable advice for successful leadership across cultures.
