Philip Vassallo, Ed.D. has developed, delivered, and supervised in-person and online communication training programs to thousands of administrative, technical, managerial, and executive professionals throughout the world representing a wide range of disciplines in corporate, government, and academic environments. He has taught on the college and graduate levels for more than 25 years, most recently on the faculty of the Beijing International MBA program. In addition to designing more than a hundred writing courses for his private clients, he has created for the American Management Association two webinars, four live online courses, and four classroom courses.
Dr. Vassallo has served as an essay and speech evaluator for the Educational Testing Service on standardized tests such as the Graduate Record Examination, College Level Examination Placement, Graduate Management Admissions Test, and the Test of Spoken English. He has edited high-profile reports for the New York City Mayor's Office, the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, and the American Chemical Society. He has provided writing coaching and assessment for numerous technical and managerial staff, ranging from highly skilled nonnative speakers to executives of multinational organizations.
Dr. Vassallo is the author of three instructional books (How to Write Fast Under Pressure, 2009, two essay collections, two poetry collections, and three studies on the school choice movement. He writes the blog Words on the Line, on effective writing, which many of his clients refer to as a source for writing improvement. In addition, he has contributed to numerous literary, scholarly, and educational publications. He has also reviewed books by McGraw-Hill, St. Martin’s Press, and Simon & Schuster. Sixteen of his short plays have been produced in New York City and elsewhere, and more than thirty have been published.
Dr. Vassallo holds a B.A. in English from Baruch College, an M.S. in education from Lehman College, and a doctorate in educational theory from Rutgers University. He has received grants from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the New Jersey State Library, and the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission for playwriting, publishing a community resource book and presenting innovative arts programs. He volunteered on several educational advisory committees and municipal boards, contributed to New Jersey’s Quality Education Committee report, and appeared on television and radio supporting education. Dr. Vassallo is a past president of the New Jersey College English Association.
